Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1508

Watching the cat curl up against Harold's leg, Lorelei went pale with indignation, her eyes unconsciously reddening.

First, a man didn't want her, and now her cat didn't want her either.

Was she really that awful?

"Fine, she's yours now." Lorelei pressed her lips together and turned on her heel to march upstairs. "Look around and see what else I should leave behind."

"Wait!"

Harold grabbed her wrist, his gaze locking onto her tear-filled eyes. "Lori, I need a reason!"

"Why are you suddenly so determined to get a divorce?"

"Harold, are you seriously going to play dumb with me?" Lorelei glared at him, her eyes brimming with pain as she choked out the words. "Felicia Bishop is back in the country."

"Felicia?"

Harold looked utterly lost. "And? What does she have to do with anything?"

"The girl you've carried a torch for all these years is back. Shouldn't I make room for her?"

Lorelei wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, forcing herself to maintain her composure. "Our marriage was built on an arrangement anyway. If it weren't for a freak accident, you two probably would have been married by now."

"Married?"

The more Harold heard, the more absurd it sounded. His brow furrowed deeply. "Married to who? Felicia?"

"Isn't that the truth?" Lorelei pressed her lips together.

"Heh."

Harold was actually so angry he laughed. "If you want a divorce, you don't have to make up such ridiculous excuses."

"Did Joel Garner coach you on this? He's a divorce lawyer, I bet he's got plenty of dirty tricks up his sleeve!"

"Why do you keep bringing Joel into this?" Lorelei snapped, her chin tipping up in defiance. "This is about us. Why do you always drag him into it?"

"Because you're divorcing me to be with him, aren't you?"

Harold was so agitated his eyes were completely bloodshot. "Lorelei, what do you even see in him?"

"Who said I have feelings for Joel?" Lorelei fired back, exasperated.

"What?"

Harold froze in place, tentatively probing, "You don't like Joel Garner? You haven't been in love with him since you were teenagers?"

Lorelei went completely mute.

Wait.

Had he been jealous of the wrong guy this entire time?

"None of your business."

Lorelei bit her lip, firing back coldly, "Go find your first love, Ms. Felicia."

"Who ever said my first love was Felicia?"

Harold set Pudge down and grabbed Lorelei by the shoulders, his breathing turning ragged and chaotic. "There has only ever been one girl I've carried a torch for. She was so far away, yet right in front of me the whole time."

It wasn't Felicia?

So far away, yet right in front of him?

Did that mean... the person he loved was... her?

Right at that moment, Lorelei's phone began to ring. It was Martha, Eleanor's caregiver.

She answered immediately. "Martha?"

"Ms. Bellamy, Eleanor collapsed," Martha's panicked voice came through the line.
