He was still in his blue scrubs. When he took off his mask, deep red lines were indented into his handsome face. His eyes were completely bloodshot, and he looked entirely drained of life.

"Right away, Dr. Houston." The nurse nodded respectfully and began steering the bed toward the ICU.

Lorelei stood frozen, her eyes locked on Harold. After a few seconds of hesitation, she murmured, "Thank you."

"You don't need to thank me."

Harold offered a faint smile. He reached out, his thumb gently wiping away the tear tracks at the corner of the girl's eyes. "Why are you crying? Everything is fine now."
