Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1517

"Dr. Houston, Lorelei."

Joel held a few gift bags in his hand, clearly here for a hospital visit. "I'm here to see Eleanor."

He had originally planned to visit a few days earlier, but Eleanor had just undergone major surgery.

She needed complete rest right after coming off the operating table.

He had only come today after hearing she had been transferred to a regular ward and was able to eat.

"Joel." Lorelei offered a polite smile. "Grandma is in Ward 2, Room 709."

"Alright."

Joel nodded, falling into step beside them as they headed toward the room.

It was about a ten-minute walk from Building 1 to Building 2.

As the three of them walked, nobody said a word.

The silence was suffocatingly awkward.

"I heard Dr. Houston had a nasty fall down the stairs. Are you alright?"

Joel was the first to break the ice.

"I'll survive." Harold shot him a sideways glance, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Sorry to disappoint you, Mr. Garner."

Lorelei nudged him discreetly and lowered her voice. "Stop it."

He was a guest who came out of the goodness of his heart to visit her grandmother.

"Hmph."

Harold scowled but finally retracted his defensive spikes.

They soon arrived at the room.

After exchanging a few pleasantries with Eleanor, Joel mentioned he had errands to run and needed to leave.

"I'll walk Mr. Garner out." Harold stood up to follow him.

"?"

Lorelei shot him a warning glance and was about to get up when Harold gently pressed her back down. He leaned in and whispered in her ear, "Relax. I didn't do anything to him even when I thought he was the love of your life. Now that I know the truth, do you really think I'd throw a punch?"

"Then be polite."

Lorelei was in the middle of helping her grandmother with her medication, so she truly couldn't step out.

"I know."
