Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1538

*Smooch*

Juniper stared quietly at Shanley for a few seconds before stepping forward and placing a kiss on the corner of his lips.

"Feeling better?"

Shanley ruffled her hair, his eyes filled with gentleness and affection. "The old man can only rest easy if you're happy."

"Mhm."

Juniper squeezed the man's fingers, her starry eyes gleaming and her voice crisp. "Shanley, sometimes you really do remind me of Grandpa."

With just a few words, he could always chase away her bad mood.

"Thank you for the compliment." Shanley's lips twitched, barely able to force a smile. "But you really could have left out that last part."

There was a time he almost thought he was playing the role of a romantic substitute. Other guys got to be the unforgettable first love, but he was playing the role of "Grandpa."

Right at that moment, rushed footsteps echoed outside the door, and then the door was pushed open as Malcolm came striding in.

Completely ditching his usual sour expression, his face was plastered with a fawning smile.

"Mr. Schwartz, what brings you here?"

Ignoring Juniper completely, Malcolm gave a servile bow to Shanley and offered his hand. "I believe this is our first time meeting? I'm Malcolm Sherwin, Juniper's adoptive father. It's a pleasure, a real pleasure."

"Adoptive father?"

Shanley remained seated on the sofa. He slowly raised his dark eyes, a terrifying chill seeping into his gaze as his thin lips curled up. "Funny, I recall Juniper being raised by the late Mr. Lemuel Sherwin."

Malcolm's smile froze, and he instinctively glanced at the cold, detached girl standing nearby.

Of course.

With Juniper clinging to such a massive pillar of support, she was bound to badmouth them.

"Yes, well, she was always closer to the old man growing up."

Swallowing his displeasure, Malcolm adjusted his attitude and shamelessly asked, "Juniper, did you come to the office for something specific today?"

Felton and Flint, standing nearby, almost choked trying to hold back their laughter. "Apologies."

Juniper glanced at him. "How polite of you."

"Ahem."

The two brothers cleared their throats, not daring to make another sound.

"Juniper, the company is truly in a dire situation." Malcolm lowered himself, practically begging. "For the sake of the old man, could you ask Mr. Schwartz to give the Sherwin Group a hand?"

"It's not entirely out of the question."

Shanley unscrewed the travel mug and handed the drink back to Juniper, speaking at a leisurely pace. "A tiny partnership with the Schwartz Group would be enough to save the entire Sherwin operation."

"Yes, exactly."

Seeing a glimmer of hope, Malcolm grew excited. "You and Juniper are getting married soon. In a way, you're practically a member of the Sherwin family."
