Suddenly called out, Kent Schwartz was stunned for a few seconds. He slowly put down the potato chip he had snatched from Shanley.
"Say something, Kent!"
Amos was agitated, his anger burning hot. "Who is in charge of the Schwartz family now?"
"As an old friend of decades, are you going to help me with this small favor or not?"
Was he really trying to guilt-trip him?
Kent set down the chips and slowly wiped his fingers with a napkin.
He looked up at Amos and asked only one question: "If one day, someone crippled your granddaughter's hand and wanted to rip out her heart, what would you do?"
Amos froze for a few seconds, his voice hoarse. "I wouldn't let such a thing happen."
"Knowing you, you'd definitely do everything in your power to make the culprit pay."
Amos remained silent, knowing Kent was right.
"Amos, other people's lives matter too. They have parents who bore them. You can't have one rule for yourself and another for everyone else, can you?"
"That girl, Annie, has truly crossed the line. I advise you, while she's still young, send her in for a proper lesson."
"Otherwise, you might save her this time, but can you save her the next?"
Wasn't Annie acting so recklessly simply because she relied on the Ainsworth family's backing?
Helping her this time would only make her worse.
Who knows what kind of disaster she'd cause in the future.
"It seems you don't intend to help either, my old friend?" Amos's expression changed drastically, his voice turning cold. "Fine, I guess I misjudged you."
"Look at you, getting all sarcastic."
Hannah stood up, walking to her husband's side with an imposing aura. "Every word my old man said came from the bottom of his heart, for your granddaughter's own good."
"And you? Saying you misjudged us? We're the ones who misjudged you. Being friends with your family is basically like keeping a criminal record."
"And pass down the order: the family has other matters to attend to recently, so we won't be receiving any guests for now."
"Old man, you don't have any objections, do you?"
Hannah glanced at Kent beside her, asking in a deep voice.
"Of course not."
Kent stood up, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with his wife, his expression serious. "My wife is fully in charge of this house, and I completely agree with her views."
"Amos, go back and think carefully. Is it really worth ruining your decades of hard work for a deranged granddaughter?"
Amos stood frozen in place, his aged eyes bloodshot.
"Dad—"
Mrs. Ainsworth stepped forward, wanting to say more, but Amos cut her off. "Since the Schwartz family refuses to help, there's nothing more to say."
