Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1794

"The ER?"

Hearing those words, Monique let out a shriek and promptly passed out.

"Honey! Honey!" Hector quickly caught her, pressing hard on her philtrum to wake her up.

"Felton, Flint, change of plans. Head to the hospital," Shanley ordered with a dismissive glance. "Get someone to carry her to the car."

"Yes, sir."

Flint nodded respectfully. It was a good thing they hadn't let Monique go off on her own.

Or who knew where she would have fainted.

—

At the hospital.

When everyone arrived, the surgery was still ongoing.

Monique had been given a mild sedative and was gradually waking up.

According to the rescue team, Kurt's back had taken a massive hit, and there was a high likelihood he would be paralyzed from the waist down.

"Paralyzed? Doesn't that mean he'll be a cripple?!"

Hearing this upon waking, Monique nearly fainted again.

"Don't panic. It's just a suspicion, nothing is confirmed."

Hector reassured his wife, his voice hoarse. "Believe me, Kurt is going to be fine."

"Oh, God..." Monique sobbed, tears streaming down her face. "If anything happens to him, I don't want to live anymore."

Ebony Fox stood quietly off to the side, her eyes glued to the operating room lights.

Looking closely, one could see her tightly clutching a black fox charm in her hand.

"Have something to drink."

Juniper handed her a simple soup, her voice very soft. "You haven't eaten all day. Your body won't hold up."

"I can't stomach it."

Ebony Fox looked at Juniper, her voice raspy. "Really."

Ebony Fox looked at Monique, but just as she was about to speak, Shanley interjected, "The doctor said his lower back took severe damage. He might be permanently paralyzed."

"What?"

Monique froze, her tears falling steadily. "I can't accept my perfectly healthy son turning into this."

"Doctor, please help him. I don't care how much it costs!"

"Is there any other way?" Hector wiped his eyes, forcing himself to stay strong. "He's still so young. His life can't just end like this."

The doctor looked sympathetic but helpless. With a 50% chance, he couldn't make any guarantees.

He pulled his mask back up and returned to the operating room.

Soon after.

Kurt was wheeled out of the ER, wearing an oxygen mask.

His face was covered in cuts and heavy bruising, his eyes tightly shut, looking entirely lifeless.

"My baby—" Monique threw herself at the bed, only to be stopped by the doctor. "Ma'am, he needs quiet."
