Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 529

Emma opened her front door, but before she could step inside, she heard Isla call out, "Stop right there."

Turning, Emma saw that Isla had followed her.

"You're quite the schemer, aren't you?" Isla sneered. "I was wondering how a divorced woman like you managed to wrap both siblings around your finger. Turns out, it's all about location, location, location."

Emma had no desire to argue. "Isla, I know you're a talented dancer. Since we're on the same team and you're not planning to leave, I hope you can focus your energy on the dance itself."

Isla's red lips curled into a mocking smile. "And in what capacity are you telling me this? As the director of the troupe, or… as Sebastian's ex-girlfriend?"

Her words didn't faze Emma, who remained perfectly calm. "As a fellow dancer." Her voice was crystal clear. "I've seen too many talented artists get destroyed by things that have nothing to do with their art."

"Are you lecturing me?" Isla laughed coldly, her long neck held even higher, her eyes dripping with disdain. "Save it. Don't act so high and mighty. You just got lucky meeting Sebastian and used his ideas to make a name for yourself. When it comes to playing games outside the studio, you're far better at it than I am."

Isla had done some basic digging on Emma. Sebastian's family had only mentioned she was a dancer who'd had a career-ending injury. Later, Isla learned Emma was divorced and that her ex-husband's company had gone bankrupt. It was easy for Isla to conclude that Emma was a gold digger who'd dumped her broke husband to latch onto the gullible heir of a wealthy family. She had never paid attention to local Cresthaven gossip, so all she knew was that Emma came from an ordinary family with unimpressive parents. How else could someone from a background like that afford to study abroad and live here, if not by renting and seducing rich men?

She had no idea that Emma had a powerful cousin, a fact both the Remingtons and Sebastian had omitted. So, her first order of business was to drive Emma away, to keep her from being a bad influence on Genevieve.

Emma didn't want to get dragged into this ridiculous drama. "I'm going to count to three. If you don't take your hand off my door, I'm calling the police."
