Emma’s research trip with her professor was scheduled to last a month. They had set aside the last two days of the final week to be in Dublin.
Her professor explained there was a traditional festival happening, a chance to experience a different kind of local culture. They were staying at a B&B again, run by an old friend of the professor’s. It was the same place they had stayed on their first night in Ireland.
The host told them that on the day of the festival, children would dress up in costumes and go from house to house, dancing.
Emma was immediately intrigued.
Her professor laughed and suggested that Emma and Cindra should join in.
“But we’re not kids anymore,” Emma said, feeling a little embarrassed.
Both the host and the professor chuckled. “In our eyes, you’re all still children.”
Emma and Cindra burst out laughing.
“All the money collected from the dancing goes to charity,” the professor added.
Well, in that case… they were in!
So, on the day of the festival, Emma and Cindra got into costume and joined the local kids, learning the dance steps on the fly and performing them door-to-door.
A heavy snow had fallen, blanketing the city in white, but it did nothing to dampen the festive atmosphere. The whole city felt like a winter wonderland, filled with the sounds of music and singing.
Emma and Cindra followed the children through the neighborhood, dancing at one house after another until they were glowing with warmth. They knocked on the next door.
The smiling face that appeared on the other side froze for a split second before breaking into an even bigger grin.
Cindra was even more excited than Emma. “Hey! I knew we’d meet again!” she exclaimed.
The person who opened the door was Theodore.
