Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 541

Anna didn’t understand. If it wasn’t that, then it wasn’t. What was there to believe or not believe?

“Anna, sometimes I don’t know if I’m in a dream or in reality,” he sighed. “Emma asked me before why I suddenly decided to retrace Bart’s journey.”

“You never told me why, either,” Anna pointed out, expecting him to finally explain.

But he didn’t.

He just smiled, his gaze fixed on the horizon, as if he truly expected to see a jeep come speeding along that coastal highway.

Emma stayed in the village for six days. Her work consisted of visiting with the local elders, listening to their stories about the history and traditions of their dances, learning their steps, and performing her own dances for them.

It was just as Bart’s note had said: this was a place that could make you forget the outside world.

But she and her professor couldn’t stay forever; they had a next stop to get to. After participating in the weekly music session and making friends with many top-tier dancers, it was time to move on.

On their last night in the village, Emma danced late into the evening with her new friends. Afterward, she returned to the guesthouse for a farewell dinner with her professor, Cindra, and, once again, Theodore and Anna. It was an evening of good food and drink.

“I wish you all a safe and smooth journey ahead,” Theodore said, raising his glass to her professor and classmates, acting for all the world like he and Emma were mere acquaintances.

He toasted her as well, of course, with a light tap of his glass against hers.

“Our paths diverge from here,” Theodore announced, sitting across from the professor, his words meant for their entire group.

Emma’s team was heading to other villages known for their traditional dance. Theodore and Anna, however, were following Bart’s route in a different direction.

“I wonder if we’ll run into each other again,” Cindra said, her emotions amplified by the alcohol. Over the past week, they had shared dinner every night and sometimes danced together at the pub. Plus, Cindra had always been a fan of his bakery's pastries, so she felt a sense of destiny in their meeting here.

“We will,” Theodore stated with conviction.

Cindra laughed. “You’re right! We’ll see each other back in London, anyway!”

Anna smiled. “I look forward to it.”
