In the lavish ballroom, Isla's phone trembled in her grip. The comments were already vicious. People were screaming for evidence, taunting Isla about her heavily publicized 'five years of hard work.' They demanded she drop her receipts immediately.
She would bet her life this was a coordinated push by media accounts.
She knew exactly how it worked because she had used the exact same dirty tactics with terrifying efficiency. Now, the boomerang was coming right back at her. She couldn't believe Emma was actually playing the same game!
High society was a fickle beast. When you were on top, surrounded by champagne and diamonds, everyone showered you with praise. But how much of it was genuine?
The moment you slipped, there was always a line of people eager to shove you off the ledge.
Right on cue, someone in the crowd spoke up. "Miss Greenwood, the internet makes a fair point. You should post the proof of your five-year creative journey and shut them down."
Isla shot the man a venomous glare. He sounded like he was on her side, but he was obviously mocking her!
Isla's mom bristled defensively, and Isla's loyal sycophants immediately jumped in to rip the guy apart on behalf of the Greenwood family.
The man offered a half-smile. "I'm just standing up for Isla! Our Isla is too brilliant to let someone throw mud at her name like this. Obviously, we have to hit back hard!"
Isla couldn't speak. She had absolutely nothing. Her claim of working on it for five years was nothing but a PR spin to sell tickets. She possessed zero proof predating Emma's timestamped videos.
The man chuckled. "Well, Isla? Why aren't you showing us? Don't tell me you don't actually have any proof?"
