Ryder’s POV
Amelia’s body was broken, blood soaking through her clothes. Her breaths came shallow, her skin almost colorless. My chest tightened until it hurt just to breathe.
me, and sprinted back toward the pack house.
I scooped her into my arms, ignoring the blood soaking into me, and
“Doctor! Now!” I barked the second I burst through the doors.
Servants scrambled. The doctor came rushing in, his face going grim the ont he saw Amelia. “Set her down!” he
ordered.
I laid her gently on the bed, my hands shaking for the first time in years.
The guards dragged Camille in soon after. Her face was pale, her lips trembling, her eyes wide with fear.
“Alpha-” she started quickly, her voice cracking. “I only wanted to protect the Pack. She’s not one of us, she’s from Silverlight! I thought-”
“Silence,” I snarled, my voice sharp enough to make her flinch. Rage boiled in me, hot and merciless. “You dared to touch what’s mine. You nearly killed my mate. For that-” I straightened, my tone absolute. “Camille will be executed at dawn.”
“No–Alpha, please! I didn’t mean-”
Her eyes went wide with For
Before she could finish, her parents rushed in. Her mother collapsed to her knees, clutching at my leg. “Alpha, please! Spake her life. She was reckless, yes, but she’s still our daughter. Please, show mercy!”
Her father’s voice shook as he added, “Punish her as you see fit, but don’t take her life. We beg you.”
Camille was openly sobbing now, her arrogance completely gone. “Please, Alpha. I’ll do anything. Just don’t kill me.”
I stared at her, my rage battling with restraint. I wanted her dead. I wanted her blood for Amelia’s. But then I looked back at Amelia, her shallow breaths barely holding on, and I knew what punishment fit best.
“Fine,” I growled. “Lock her in the dungeon.” My glare bored into Camille’s tear–streaked face. “But listen carefully–if Amelia doesn’t survive this… then neither will you.”
The guards dragged Camille away, her cries echoing down the hall. I didn’t watch. All I could see was Amelia–my mate- bleeding out in front of me.
I turned back to the doctor, who was already bent over her. His hands were steady, but his face was pale.
“Tell me the truth,” I demanded. “Can she survive?”
The doctor swallowed hard. “Alpha… her injuries are severe. Too much blood loss, and some cuts are dangerously deep. If she were anyone else, I would say…” He trailed off, looking away.
“Say it,” I growled.
“She may not live through the night.”
The words punched through me like claws to the chest. My fists clenched so hard I thought my bones would break. No. I couldn’t accept that.
“Do what you can,” I snapped. “And send for the witch. Now.”
A couple of minutes later, a guard rushed back with the oldest witch in the pack. She gave Amelia’s limp body one sharp look, then stepped closer without a word, her hands hovering over Amelia’s chest.
