Chapter 29

Amelia’s POV

Hey, hey, c’mere:

Ryder’s voice barely carried. He edged a step cisser, palms up, like he was coating a stray.

You didn’t hurt me, okay? Look at me. I’m right here.

My eyes dropped to his forearmstill red, still angrylooking where I’d burned him.

It wasn’t healing. Not fast enough.

I did,I said quietly, the words barely catching on my breath. You don’t have to pretend.

Ryder followed my gaze, then shook his head like I’d just missed the point entirely.

This?He lifted his arm slightly, like it barely registered. It’s nothing.”

I shook my head hard, shame burning my throat. You should stay away from me. I almost-

Ryder stepped closer, voice low but steady. So what if you caused some fireworks? Isn’t that why we’re training? His hand brushed my arm, grounding me. You’re learning, baby. Obviously you’ll make mistakes. Accidents happer. That’s part of the process.

The way he said it so matteroffactly almost made me believe him. Almost. But the words from the book wouldn’t stop echoing in my head, circling like they had gained life of their own, mocking me.

My chest tightened, terror clawing through me until I felt like I couldn’t breathe. My eyes went wide, my pulse a wild hammer in my throat.

Shhh,Ryder murmured, stepping in close, his voice steady in a way mine could never be. Calm down. Quiet now. I’m here, right? Nothing’s going to happen to you.”

Before I realized it, he was steering me gently out of the training grounds, one hand firm on my back. His warmth anchored me with every step, and soon I found myself back in my room, the familiar walls pressing some of the panic out of my lungs.

I turned toward him, my voice small. Can Ican I help treat your arm?

His eyes softened. Yeah, baby. You can.

I hurried to fetch the first aid kit from the cabinet and brought it to the bed. Ryder sat down without protest, watching me with that unreadable mix of patience and worry as I carefully cleaned the burn on his arm. My fingers shook, but I forced them steady as I spread ointment and wrapped the bandage.

There,I whispered when it was done.

He tilted his head slightly. Satisfied now?

I nodded, though my throat felt too tight for words.

He leaned in just enough to brush a soft kiss against my cheek, the warmth of it lingering long after he pulled back. Good. Freshen up and get some rest. I’ll ask the maid to bring your lunch.

simply Turf for a while. Same things I need to chertores

And the stond giving me one hat look before braving the room.

It was past dock when Ryder returned spain quick like dways, hot there was something different m his expression

Notter, runtly focused Like lu’d mad up his mind abou something

He didn’t say anything at first Just held his hand out agno like earlier. An invitation. A choice,

We walked back through his room, but instead of stopping near the balcony or the sitting area, Ryder led me to a wall I’d never paid attention to before. There was no obvious door, no handle. Just smooth oak panels.

He pressed his palm to a seam I hadn’t noticed, and a soft click followed.

The door cased open.

1 hesitated, What is this?

He stepped aside, Go ahead.

I crossed the thresholdand stopped cold.

It was like stepping into another world. A softer one.

The room was spacious but warm, every detail thought through: soft amber lights that glowed like candlefire, tall windows layered with sheer curtains that let the moonlight pour in unhindered, and rich wooden floors that creaked gently underfoot. It smelled like lavender and pine smokefamiliar but gentler, like the air had been waiting for me.

But then I saw itthe closet.

And everything in me went still.

It wasn’t just a place to hang clothes. It was deliberate. Thought out.

One side was already full. Ryder’s suits, his jackets, his shirts, folded and hung with a kind of silent precision. His scent clung to the spaceleather, smoke, something colder underneath. But the other half-

The other half was empty.

Waiting.

My chest pulled tight.

ThisI whispered. Your stuff? But you

Ours,” Ryder said quietly behind me, his arm sliding around my waist. Everything is ready now. Will my Luna move in

with me?

I turned to look at him, breath catching. You…. Iyes.” I breathed.
