Chapter 6: Get Your Filthy Hands off Her
Amelia’s POV
Jasper’s face twisted the second Alpha Ryder stepped into the room. I could tell he was shocked, maybe even jealous, t eyes narrowing as he took in Ryder’s tall, commanding figure. But Jasper wasn’t stupid–Ryder was the Alpha of the Pawmoon Pack, the strongest clan around. No matter how much Jasper wanted to lash out, he held it together, biting b his anger.
Ryder wasn’t what Jasper expected. Heck, he wasn’t what anyone expected. Compared to the unpopular opinion of the the man in front of us was… well, gorgeous.
Jasper stepped forward, forcing a smile. “Alpha Ryder,” he said, sticking out his hand. “Good to see you. Welcome to Silverlight territory.”
Ryder shook his hand, his face calm but unreadable. Estrella, still on the couch, perked up, batting her eyes like some desperate fangirl. “Alpha Ryder,” she purred, standing and smoothing her dress, leaning forward just a bit too much. “It such an honor.”
Her voice was all sweet, but I could see her trying way too hard to catch his attention. I rolled my eyes. She was ridiculous. Ryder barely glanced at her, instead his eyes remained glued on me with a curious glint in them I couldn’t meet.
I was ready for insults, a beating, maybe being dragged off after the deal, but nothing prepared me for his intense, burning gaze.
Jasper cleared his throat trying to catch Ryder’s attention. “Why’d you move the meeting up?” he asked, his voice low and direct. “Did something urgent come up?”
Ryder narrowed Jasper with a bored look. “Don’t I have the right to check my package before making payment?” He aske coldly.
“Yeah, yeah, of course,” Jasper laughed nervously. “Totally necessary.”
For once, I was actually thankful for his arrogance. It gave me the perfect excuse.
I slipped out while they talked, heart pounding. I made my way to the kitchen, pretending I was being useful. Something to do. Something to focus on.
Coffee. Yeah. That felt safe.
The kitchen was basically empty, but I found some old instant coffee and made it strong and black. No sugar, no milk. Ryder didn’t seem like the type to care.
I carried it back on a tray, hoping my hands didn’t shake too much.
And then I almost walked right into him.
He was by the door, silent, and way too close. I froze, staring.
Our eyes met.
My stomach dropped.
He definitely recognized me! Thinking back to the fake name I gave him I wish the ground will open up and swallow me.
Ryder upon seeing my flustered expression took the coffee from my tray, “Thank you.” He whispered looking me straight in the eye amusement dancing in his eyes.
His eyes were like a black hole, pulling me in. My neck and face burned–I must’ve looked like a tomato.
My heart was pounding so hard I thought it’d burst.
“What’s this? You two know each other or something?”
Jasper’s annoyed voice snapped me out of the spell Ryder’s eyes cast on me.
