Chapter 1 You’re Jealous?

Svalbard Islands, Norway.

“Adrian! You won’t believe what I found out! We can go glacier hiking and even explore an ice cave! And guess what? The locals say we might see the Northern Lights!”

Adrian Foster had finally cleared half a month to bring Chloe Hart to see the aurora.

She’d pulled several night shifts at the hospital, swapping with colleagues just for this trip.

“So… glacier hiking tomorrow?” Chloe asked, scarf pulled up to her nose, eyes shining with pure excitement.

Frost dusted her lashes, and her nose was bright red from the cold. Each breath came out in little puffs, making her look almost ethereal.

Adrian couldn’t remember the last time she’d looked this alive.

Since their contract marriage started, she’d always been so calm and gentle–like nothing could ever faze her.

But right now, those eyes of hers were shimmering like tiny galaxies, fixed on him, full of hope.

Something soft tugged at Adrian’s chest.

“Sure, why not?” he said, smiling.

Her grin spread instantly, lighting up her whole face.

The next day.

Following their guide, they geared up and headed out for their ice cave adventure.

His expression changed completely as he listened, and he started walking back.

She reached out to grab his arm, but caught nothing but air.

He was moving too fast. In her heavy snow gear, Chloe couldn’t keep up.

By the time she finally made it back to the hotel, Adrian had already changed out of his snow clothes and into his regular outfit.

“What happened?” she asked, worried by the grim look on his face.

Adrian’s jaw was tight, his voice heavy with tension. “Nat’s been kidnapped. I have to go back and save her. Now.”

Chloe knew all about her.

She’d heard that Natalie had been sickly since childhood and was sent abroad by her parents for treatment. She’d just returned to New York a week ago.

Watching Adrian’s panicked expression, Chloe felt something bitter twist in her chest.

He spun around, impatience written all over his face.

The gentle, sweet expression from this morning was completely gone, replaced by something cold and hard.

“Look, Chloe,” he said sharply. “I married you because I thought you were kind, because you understood me. And now you’re jealous? You’d stop me from saving her?”
