Chapter 168: Can you love me?

Leilani.

When Gavin told me several days ago that even though I would never forgive him, he wouldn’t stop until he had succeeded in clearing my name, I never took him seriously until I witnessed what he did to Chalice a few minutes ago.

I didn’t even know how I felt as I watched their altercation, or afterwards, when he carefully carried her out of the room whilst screaming for a doctor after she’d ’fainted’.

All I knew was that I didn’t feel anything. Anything at all, even as I knew that there was nothing wrong with her.

That that was her usual response to confrontations she couldn’t lie her way out of.

It was something I have seen happen time and time again in the past.

So now, I have become immune to it.

I was however snapped out of these thoughts when I heard the sound of my door creaking open and I sat up quickly, afraid that it was someone else, and turned in the direction of the door only to let out a sigh of relief when a mane of shiny pink hair came into view.

"Maya?"

"Leilani!" She screamed, crying ugly as she ran over to wrap her sexy long arms around my neck (unrelated, but I don’t know why she’s refused to be a model.)

Tears fell freely down her face and her shoulders shook as she held onto me so tight, I feared she would break my bones.

And heavens, I’ll be a liar if I said that her reaction didn’t shock me.

I do not know for how long we stayed there with her arms around my body like tentacles; But by the time she finally let go, the collar of my shirt was soaked through with her tears.

Though she had long stopped crying, her eyes were swollen and red. I asked carefully; "Are you okay?"

She shook her head.

"What happened? Why are you crying so much?"

When she heard my question, she tilted her head to the side and stared at me like I’d just lost my mind. Her eyes flashed with a comical anger, and she snarled; "Are you really asking me that?!"

I frowned. "Yes, is that wrong?"

This time, she rose from the bed as if to distance herself from my madness, and I almost laughed when she wiped at her face angrily and sneered at me— even though her lips still trembled like she was holding in laughter.

She cried; "I was worried about you!"

Now, that made a small smile appear on my face— one that widened when she came back to sit beside me on the bed.

Her fingers brushed at my hair, sweeping off all the escaped strands away from my face as she muttered; "I heard that you were injected with silver and wolfsbane; and I also heard that you were shot with silver bullets... and you know what that does right? RIGHT?" But as if stopping to ponder over something, she suddenly asked; "How are you even awake if all of those happened to you?"

I smiled. "I wasn’t shot."

"But—"

"Alpha Caelum was the one who was shot."

"Oh!" She gasped, slapping her hand over her mouth in surprise. "I didn’t... I thought it was you. Oh wait, did you just say Alpha Caelum?!" She screamed incredulously, and I could only shake my head at her reactions.

"Yes." I drawled.
