Leilani.
"Argghhh!" The ear shattering scream tore out from the back of my throat as I doubled over in pain, writhing when my body spasmed uncontrollably as if being tased by a high voltage taser.
I screamed so loud my throat felt sore and I cried so much, I feared I would go blind. But none of these helped the pain coursing through my spine. It didn’t help that I was quickly heating up, boiling in fact and I couldn’t seem to fathom where the heat was coming from.
I feared that I was coming down with a fever, but what I didn’t understand was if this is how the antidote should work.
If this was the amount of pain it should put me through before healing me from the inside out.
Tears streamed down my face as I grabbed at my hair from its roots, retching and screaming because it was too much to bear. And that was no joke. It was indeed too much!
And goddess, I tried to keep myself from screaming so agonizingly. I tried to hold myself up and to bear the pain.
But could I do that? Certainly not!
In my blind desperation, I tried to reach for my phone and after finding it and failing for a couple of minutes, my hands finally curled around the cold metal and I instantly dialed a number I was sure was Maya’s.
It rang and on its first ring, it was picked.
I cried; "Hello, Maya! I need help. I am in so much pain."
The person on the other end of the phone didn’t speak immediately, but when they finally did, I found myself plucking the phone off my ear so quickly one would think it burned.
"Hello?" The gruff voice came again, clearer this time. He drawled; "Leilani please talk to me! Are you okay?"
Tears burned in my eyes. Even my hands shook as I brought it back up to my ears. A couple of seconds passed and more without me speaking. But when I finally did, I could only mutter the words;
"I’m in so much pain."
"Where are you?" Zevran’s voice came next, sharp yet worried. It reminded me of the way Jarek used to sound whenever I called him to complain or rant about something.
I dragged in a deep shuddering breath and sighed, my vibe cold as I whispered the word; "Home," into the receiver.
He didn’t speak immediately but I knew that he was still listening to me. And I... I was in too much pain to wonder what he was feeling. To care about if he would help.
The seconds were beginning to stretch for far too long, and when I had begun to think that he would respond, he rasped out; "Hold on!"
"Okay."
"Do not end the call, ever, Leilani. I’ll be with you shortly!" He supplied and I was already nodding my head before realizing that he couldn’t see me.
Maybe it was the reassurance I found in his voice or the way he sounded like he was indeed worried about me, but I found myself planting the phone upside down on the floor while I dragged my battered body a few feet away from it. I didn’t dare end the call in fear that I would be plunged into a quiet loneliness if I did and I also didn’t try to pick it back up because I guess, I didn’t want to seem more intimate with the triplets than I already was.
However, a few minutes later, my small spasms soon turned into violent shakes— so violent that it made my teeth clatter.
The heat burning through my veins felt so impossible to bear, I could imagine that I was breathing fire.
Another loud scream tore through my lips when another wave of pain hit me square in the guts and I threw my head back, screaming when the vibrations shook me even to my rectum.
