Chapter 485: She doesn’t.

Leilani.

"Do you, Alpha Darius Valemont, take Ms Leilani Sinclair to be your lawfully wedded wife, in sickness and in health... for richer and for poorer, till death do you part?" The priest’s voice called out, clipped and hoarse.

Darius didn’t blink. He didn’t even hesitate. He answered; "Yes, I do."

The priest turned to me. "And do you, Ms Leilani Sinclair, take Alpha Darius Valemont to be your lawfully wedded husband—"

"Yes, she does!" Darius cut in, his voice crisp. For a moment, I was so stunned, I could barely say a word, and when I finally managed to, I frowned at him and hissed under my breath; "Let the priest finish!"

The crowd laughed.

To them, this was a funny moment but it wasn’t to me. From where I stood, my eyes wouldn’t stop scanning the crowd for any signs of my people... but there were none. None at all.

I bit my lips.

I was jolted out of my thoughts when the priest turned to me with an apologetic smile. His eyes lowered slightly as he murmured; "Now, Ms Leilani Sinclair, do you take Alpha Darius Valemont to be your lawfully wedded husband, in sickness and in health, for richer and for poorer... till death do you part?"

I hesitated.

Goddess, I couldn’t help it because the more I thought about it, the more I realized that this was an oath. A bond. And I feared that if I took this step, then there would be no going back.

"Do you, Ms Sinclair, take Alpha Darius Valemont to be your lawfully wedded husband, in sickness and in health, for richer and for poorer... till death do you part?"

The priest asked again, and this time, he sounded harsher. His voice was clipped in ways it shouldn’t be and his eyes bore holes into my flesh as they raked from the top of my head to the hem of my dress.

I gulped, feeling my chest tighten, only to feel a sudden pull when Darius suddenly grabbed my arm in an iron-like grip.

"Leilani..." He hissed sharply, but still I couldn’t respond. My heart was beating so fast, I feared I would pass out.

In desperation, I opened my mouth only to clamp it shut when no words would slip past. So I shook my head.

"Leilani..." Darius tried again, sounding harsher. Darker. "Don’t do this. This is my dream wedding. This is your dream wedding."

But it was not my dream wedding.

Hell, it was not even my dream to marry him.

I squeezed my eyes shut and took in a deep breath, but in order not to ruin my plans which were already underway, I slowly looked up at him, smiled softly and cleared my throat.

"I..."

However, the words had not fully left my mouth when a deep voice suddenly interrupted me. It was filled with so much power...and so much raw authority that it made my body throb.

"She doesn’t!"

At the sound of the voice, everyone turned towards the sound only for a collective gasp to ripple through the crowd when we all saw my father standing at the very end of the cleared pathway.

My father.

Behind him, the triplets stood, their faces a mask of stone. But it wasn’t them that everyone watched. It was the man believed to be dead. The man who had ruled them all like they were his children. The man who now walked to the altar with the precision of a predator stalking its prey.

In that brief moment, I turned to look at Darius and the look on his face was... well, it was a lot. He looked horrified yet mad at the same time, and he staggered backward like someone who had just seen a ghost.

Raising a frantic hand, he shouted at the guards; "Take him away!"

And while the younger ones dared to move, most didn’t. In fact, the most which did not move ended up pinning the ones which moved to the ground.
