Emily strutted over, waving a cake in her hand at Kya. "Look what mom brought you, kiddo!"

Kya's eyes lit up and she darted towards the cake.

Emily took a few steps back and perched on the couch, holding the cake and grinning, "Missed me, did ya?"

"I missed you mom!" Kya beamed.

Emily placed the cake on the coffee table and noticing a princess castle toy nearby, she asked Kya, "Did Estelle spoil you with another new toy?"

Kya, her eyes glued to the cake box, shook her head, "It's from Mister Carson!"

Emily frowned slightly, turning to Ms. Simmons. "He's been here again?"

She was aware that Kya had been ill and that Carson had been visiting her often.

Ms. Simmons nodded, "Yes, he bought Kya a new toy and then left after a while."

Why was Carson being so nice to Kya? Emily was puzzled.

Sure, Carson had once shown an interest in her, but that was a long time ago. He was engaged now, so he couldn't still have feelings for her.

What was he up to?

The toy was a high-end princess castle, made by a top brand. It was a pricey set.

The cost might be a drop in the ocean for Carson, but Emily felt uncomfortable about him spending both time and money.

Her gaze returned to the princess castle and she was reminded of someone, causing a pang in her heart.

When Estelle came down to join Kya for the cake, Emily said, "Estelle, can I have Carson's number? I lost all my previous contacts when I changed my phone."

"Not bad!" Estelle agreed.

Emily shook her head, "Isn't it too casual to give him this model?"

"I think it's great!" Estelle said.

"Let's give this to Mister Carson!" Kya was tugging at Emily's arm.

Emily laughed and said, "Okay, when he comes next time, you can give this to him!"

"Okay!" Kya's cute face was full of earnestness.

The next day, when Charlie came to visit Kya again, she took out the model and explained in her childish voice, "This is a gift from mom!"
