“Where’s Kya?” Magdalen scanned the lawn filled with children but couldn’t spot Ky

“Charlie’s here, and she’s with him,” Emily said.

Magdalen raised her eyebrows and chuckled, “Well, look at you, already got someone backing you up. Ella and I were worried for nothing!”

Emily blushed, “I wish he hadn’t shown up. He’s causing me more trouble than good, and I hate owing him any favours.”

Magdalen’s eyes sparkled, “What happened?”

Emily recounted the events after Charlie’s arrival.

Magdalen blinked, “Emily, I think Charlie really likes you”

Emily immediately responded, “He’s just feeling sorry for Kya”

Magdalen shook her head with a smile, “He doesn’t know his relationship with Kya. In his eyes, Kya is just your daughter. Why would he feel sorry for Kya if not for you? You’re smart. Stop playing dumb”

Caught off guard, Emily fell silent.

Estelle nodded, “I agree with Magdalen.”

Emily’s gaze flickered, but she remained sceptical, “I know Charlie too well. His slight desire to conquer me is because I lied to him and didn’t comply with him. It has nothing to do with liking me. He’s always nice to women he wants. I’m not the first and won’t be the last. There’s nothing special.”

Magdalen propped her cheek on her hand, tapping her fingers on her cheek, and mused, “Emily does have a point. These playboys always sweet-talk until they get what they want, and then they change their tune. Emily, you’re too clear-headed!”

Someone tried to hand Charlie a cigarette, but he refused, “There’s a child present, no smoking”
