“No, I was actually waiting for the right moment to quit, Emily said, a hint of self-mockery tugging at her lips. “Since we can’t be together, it’s best to sever the ties cleanly” 

“So, what’s your plan for the future? Are you going back to Oakdale City?” Estelle asked. 

“No!” Emily’s eyes were clear and determined. “I ran away three years ago. I won’t run away this time. I was born and grew up in J City, and I love it here. I won’t leave, especially not to lead a nomadic life with Kya. I’ve submitted my resume to a company, and I’ll have an interview after the holiday. It’s related to my field of major Emily propped her cheek on her hand, her eyes filled with anticipation. “My dream has always been to be an outstanding architect. These past few years, I’ve lived for my family, and for Kya, but I haven’t lived for myself. Starting now, I want to do what I love 

Estelle looked at Emily and felt genuinely happy for her. “You’ll make it, I know you will!” 

Emily turned to her, smiling. “Thank you, Estelle!” 

“Don’t be so polite with me!” Estelle chuckled. 

Kya’s excited clapping near the pond drew their attention. They turned and saw Kya and Mr. Jarvis had caught a fish, about an arm’s length. 

Mr. Jarvis was delighted and called Wade. “We’ll have this fish for dinner!” 

Emily’s phone suddenly rang and she saw it was Shawn calling. She answered it 

“Emily, it’s Thanksgiving. Have you come home?” he asked. 

“No, I’m with friends.” 

“Why aren’t you home to be with your mom for the festival?” Shawn asked. 

Emily didn’t provide a reason and simply asked, “How are things over there?” 

“Great. My bosses are taking good care of me, and they’ve provided lots of holiday bonuses. You don’t need to worry about anything, just take care of yourself and Kya, Shawn said cheerfully. I’m just checking in to let you know I’m okay” 

Emily felt relieved knowing Shawn was settling into his job. “Okay, take care of yourself too!” 

“Don’t worry. When I have time, I’ll come to see you and Kyal 

“Okay” 

After hanging up, Emily told Estelle, “That was my dad. He said he’s doing well in his job.” 

Estelle raised her teacup and clinked with Emily’s. “Everything’s getting better 

Emily’s eyes sparkled with laughter. “Yes” 

In J City. 

After the lunch rush, Damian and his staff cleaned up the lobby, preparing to close for the afternoon and get ready for a celebration together for the holiday. 

Just as he hung the “Closed” sign, someone walked in. 

Zachary came out of the kitchen and headed upstairs. He called to Damian, “Aren’t we closed to customers now?” 

Damian chuckled. “Norah’ here”” 

Zachary, hearing Norah had come, changed his direction and headed to the lobby, grinning. “Norah!” 

“Happy holiday, everyone!” Norah carried several gift boxes and placed them on the table. “I brought some pies for you.” 

“We’re friends, Norah. No need to be so formal,” Damian laughed. 

“They were given to my family, and we can’t eat them all. So I brought some for you all to enjoy!” Norah replied with a charming smile. 

Zachary cast a gaze at the elegant gift boxes and commented. “These look quite expensive. I’m curious to taste these high-end pies, which probably cost a fortune.” 

“Where’s Mr. Flemmings?” Norah asked, looking around.
