Estelle was supposedly crushed, trampled underfoot by the high society, yet somehow, she had risen like a phoenix from the ashes. How had she done it?
Granddaughter of the prestigious Jarvis family, CEO of the renowned GK Enterprises, and wife to the president of the Lamont Group.
How had she achieved all this?
She had stayed away, silent, unresponsive—was she just biding her time to deliver a fatal blow when they were most excited?
It had to be the case. Estelle had always been cunning.
The Crawley family was unreachable by phone, likely a lost cause now. The Macclain family was finished. Jonathan and the Jarvis family would never let them off the hook!
Watching Simone grow increasingly irate, Carmella turned with indifferent eyes and made her way upstairs.
Once in her room, she dialed a number. "Where are you?" she asked tersely.
Victor's voice was cautious. "Carmella, there's trouble with the Macclain family, isn't there?"
"Yes!"
"Then you better get moving, don't delay!" Victor's voice dropped to a whisper. "I've got the money, anyway. If the Macclains catch on, we're both done for!"
"Right, I'll meet you at the airport. I'm leaving now!" Carmella replied in a hushed tone, glancing at the firmly shut door before she began packing swiftly.
The designer clothes in her wardrobe were too bulky and conspicuous; she had to leave them behind. But the jewelry Simone had bought her—diamonds, gemstones—she had a whole drawer full, and naturally, she intended to take it all.
She stuffed her valuables into a designer limited-edition handbag and hurried out.
Simone was still in the living room, her shrill voice betraying panic as she made call after call.
"So where are you going with all this at this hour?" Simone's anxiety was palpable, her expression darkening.
Carmella, eyes wide and panicked, blurted out, "I—I was going to see Estelle, to offer her everything I have, to beg her to spare Mom and Dad, to ask the Lamont family for mercy!"
Simone was momentarily touched, regretting her rush to judgement. She was about to offer comfort when Bennett's stern voice cut through.
"Who is Victor Brown to you?"
"What?" Carmella looked up in shock.
Bennett's anger was barely contained. "I just went to check the company's accounts and found Victor has embezzled several transactions. Calls to our suppliers revealed they hadn't received payments. Our accounts are practically empty, and Mr. Larry from purchasing said you brought him in. You've been covering for him—what's going on?"
His company, already struggling under Jonathan's pressure, was now in dire straits with substantial funds embezzled by Victor and Carmella. They were left with mountains of debt and no cash flow. Larry claimed he had reported it, but supposedly, he had been told by Carmella not to worry about it.
