"Yeah!"
After exchanging a few laughs, Sophia reminded Eileen to call her once she got home before hanging up.
She pocketed her phone but didn't head back immediately. Instead, Sophia strolled along the corridor until she reached the middle, where she abruptly stopped upon spotting two figures standing on the balcony ahead.
Jason and Jewel were leaning against the railing, close together, engaged in conversation.
From a distance, and with their voices kept low, Sophia couldn't make out their words.
Eavesdropping wasn't exactly honorable, so she quickly turned and headed back to the private room, though the silhouettes under the dim lights lingered in her mind.
Back in the room, she resumed showing Finnian model photos on her phone but found herself glancing towards the door now and then.
About fifteen minutes later, Jason returned, accompanied by Jewel.
While Sophia was chatting with Finnian, Jason's gaze swept over them, his expression somewhat muted under the dim lighting, "It's getting late. Let's call it a night. We'll catch up some other time."
Everyone got up, bidding each other farewell.
Finnian, with a grateful smile, said, "Thanks for today, Sophia. Let me treat you to dinner sometime."
Sophia flashed a charming smile, "We're all friends here, no need for formalities!"
As they were leaving, Jason instinctively reached for Sophia's coat, but Jewel subtly stopped him, "Jason, I've got a project I'm considering investing in. Not sure about the risks, though. Can you give it a look?"
Understanding her hint, Jason refrained from helping and instead discussed the investment as they walked out.
Once outside, he briefly glanced back at Sophia, who, engrossed in conversation with Finnian, had forgotten her coat.
Jewel playfully asked, "Do you remember what I like?"
Jason arched an eyebrow, "Durian puff?"
Jewel burst into laughter, "Right, you remembered! Thought you'd have forgotten!"
Their banter carried a light flirtatious undertone, drawing knowing smiles from the others.
Jason glanced at Sophia, who was idly kicking pebbles, lost in thought. He crossed the street to the dessert shop, his eyes immediately finding the crisp profiteroles Sophia loved. Just as he was about to ask for them, a text from Jewel popped up,
"Don't buy what Sophia likes. Just the durian puffs. Trust me on this!"
It seemed she had anticipated his intentions perfectly.
