Jason said, “Got a bit spooked last night, took off first thing this morning!”
Good thing he didn’t bolt in the middle of the night, or else he’d be too worried and have to chase after her right away.
Jewel couldn’t help but laugh, “So, you heading back to J City today?”
Jason replied, “No, in a couple of days.”
Jewel said, “Fair enough. This time, you really do need to give her some space to get used to the changes between you two.”
Jason, “Anyway, thanks a lot!”
Jewel softly said, “No need for thanks. As long as you don’t resent me for pushing Sophia away with my half-baked ideas, I’m good.”
“No chance!” Jason said quietly, “It was bound to happen sooner or later!”
Better to confess early than to live in regret!
Jewel chuckled gently, “Alright then. Wish you luck in winning over your lady. Don’t forget to invite us for a beer when you tie the knot.”
“Definitely!”
Jason’s tone grew more resolute.
Sophia arrived in J City in the afternoon. The room was covered in dust, she didn’t bother hiring a cleaning service, opting to tidy up on her own instead.
She needed to keep busy, to stop herself from constantly thinking about Jason and the out-of-control moment from the night before.
She fled to B City to avoid Robin, and now she’s back in J City, running from Jason.
Thinking about it, she felt like a complete fool!
By early evening, after she cleaned up the house, she called Estelle, “Estelle, I’m back in J City. I’m planning to visit Master. Do you want to come along?”
Estelle hadn’t gone to the company with Jonathan Lamont today; she was at the Royal Mansion working on her design drafts. Upon receiving the call, she immediately said, “Sure, shall we head out now?”
“Sophia!” Evelyn exclaimed happily upon seeing her and walked over.
Looking at Evelyn in the twilight, Sophia felt she had changed a lot.
Initially, Evelyn had a bright personality with a hint of shyness in her eyes. Now, dressed in designer clothes and wearing an emerald necklace, she had completely transformed into the delicate image of a rich young lady.
“Sophia, long time no see!” Evelyn said with a smile.
Sophia nodded with a faint smile, “How’s Master?”
“Great! With me keeping Grandpa company, how could he not be? He said this was the happiest New Year he’s had!” Evelyn’s lips curled up, “After all, no matter how close others are, they can’t compare to a real granddaughter, right, Sophia?”
Sophia frowned slightly, puzzled by Evelyn’s apparent need to guard against her.
Was she afraid Sophia would steal her status as the granddaughter?
Moreover, out of everyone, Evelyn seemed only to harbor hostility towards her.
