How could he bear to scold her?
He wrapped his arms around her, gently patting her back, his voice softened to a murmur, "Stop crying, I was just pulling your leg. Thought pressuring you would make you hesitate because you'd miss me too much. Didn't expect you'd just walk away, not giving me any face."
Sophia paused, her sobs catching in her throat.
"I won't push you. Take your time to think about it. Whether you say yes or no to being with me, you'll always be the apple of my eye. How could I ever neglect you!"
Tears welled up in Sophia's eyes again, her voice breaking as she spoke, "Don't say that... It only makes me feel guiltier!"
"Is there guilt, but no touched feelings?" he asked.
"Is a love touched by guilt what you want?" Sophia replied.
Jason frowned, his voice hoarse, "No, it isn't."
"That's why I can't be with you just because I'm touched." Sophia cried out, "Do you understand?"
A sharp pain pierced Jason's heart as he nodded slightly, "I understand."
Sophia buried her face in his chest, her sobs resurfacing. When she lifted her head, she used his shirt to dab her tears dry, noticing the damp patch on his chest, she couldn't help but chuckle.
Jason looked down, a smirk crossing his face, "So, you want the whole studio to know you've been crying in my arms?"
Sophia's face flushed with embarrassment, "Then you better not go out!"
Jason gazed into her teary eyes, his hand gently wiping her tears away. His palm cradled her face, his fingers brushing against her eyes. Sophia's long lashes fluttered, then drooped.
The touch of her lashes against his fingertips felt like a whirlwind sweeping through his chest, leaving chaos in its wake.
Her red eyes and subdued demeanor melted Jason's heart. His gaze fell on her lips, recalling the sensation of kissing her, his throat tightening with the urge to kiss her again.
Before, she had kept it short to suit Robin's preference for short-haired girls, but over time, it became a habit. Now that it had grown, she didn't feel like cutting it.
Back in the office, her assistant, Tina, popped in, smiling, "Estelle had to leave early; she asked me to let you know."
Sophia nodded, "Alright, thanks for the heads-up!"
Then, a call came from the reception, "Director, a visitor requested to see you, claiming they called for an appointment yesterday. Would you like to meet them now?"
Sophia recalled receiving a call from a stranger the previous day, expressing admiration for her work and requesting a custom engagement ring design. She had agreed to meet them at the studio today.
Quickly gathering herself, Sophia responded warmly, "Sure, send them to the lounge; I'll be right there."
"Understood!" the receptionist replied.
Sophia organized the documents on her desk before heading to the lounge. Upon entering, she was taken aback by the sight of the person waiting for her.
