Sophia's eyelid twitched as she turned to look at Jason. Spotting his gaze coming over from behind his glasses, she immediately pretended to reach for her water glass.
Diana, outmaneuvered by Jason, had no choice but to sit down and wait for Robin to arrive.
Robin showed up quickly, in less than half an hour. Seeing the group sitting on the couch, his expression darkened as he asked sternly, “What happened?”
Jason couldn’t be bothered to engage with him.
His assistant filled Robin in on the situation.
Robin’s face went pale, “Sixty thousand dollars?”
Sophia’s expression turned icy. Just a couple of days ago, the three of them had bumped into each other at a diner, where Robin had sworn up and down that Sophia was the one he liked and that he was going to break things off with Diana.
Yet, in less than two days, the two were talking about getting engaged!
No sooner had this thought crossed her mind than she saw Robin sharply turn to Diana, “When did I say I was going to get engaged to you?”
Diana's eyes widened, “Didn’t you say you were going home soon?”
“I said I was going home, but did I say anything about us getting engaged?”
“I mentioned taking my parents to your place, and you didn’t object!” Diana looked at Robin in disbelief, “Doesn’t meeting each other's parents imply engagement?”
Robin’s expression turned sour, “You said your parents might know mine and wanted to visit as guests. I thought it was just a casual visit. The engagement idea was all in your head!”
In front of Sophia, Diana was metaphorically slapped in the face. Her usual gentle and submissive façade couldn’t hold up as she retorted, “Robin, how can you go back on your word like this?”
Robin was indifferent, “I never agreed to be with you, how could we talk about getting engaged?”
Diana’s face flushed with a mix of anger and humiliation, her body trembling, “Robin, I gave myself to you, and you promised to take responsibility. Are you going back on your word now?”
Robin left with a dark expression.
Following Jason towards the office, Sophia finally spoke up, “Thank you, Mr. Gilder!”
Jason turned to look at her, “Next time you run into them, anywhere, just call me.”
Sophia paused, her expression serious, “I should learn to handle things myself.”
She couldn’t depend on him for everything.
Jason frowned, “You’re trying to push me away already?”
Sophia immediately shook her head.
Jason stepped closer, lifting his hand to her forehead, his thumb gently pressing against her brow. His eyes, cool and deep behind his glasses, fixated on her, “Why do you think I’ve spoiled you so much all these years?”
