The entanglement of their lips seemed to have fundamentally transformed her relationship with Jason.
After what felt like an eternity, Jason finally stopped, his breath heavy as he held her face in his hands.
He was holding back, Sophia could tell.
"Jason!" Sophia whispered, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
"Hmm?"
"Do you think I'm... flighty?" Sophia asked regretfully. "It's been less than half a month since Robin and I officially broke up, and here I am, kissing you."
Jason let out a breath he seemed to have been holding in, almost laughing, "If you were flighty, what about the ten years of deep affection between us?"
He caressed her face, "Feeling guilty?"
Sophia shook her head, her eyes filled with confusion, "I just can't seem to wrap my head around it."
"Do you like it when I kiss you?"
Sophia's cheeks burned even hotter, and she lowered her lashes without saying a word.
Jason hugged her tighter, "Sophia, I've been protecting you since we were kids, never letting you suffer the slightest grievance. My biggest wish has always been for you to do as you please, to always be that carefree little girl of mine."
"No one expects you to stay stuck in your past relationship forever. As for how quickly you move on, that depends on my efforts, okay?"
A small smile played on Sophia's lips, "You saying that does make me feel a lot better!"
Jason chuckled softly, "So you just want me to take the blame, huh? Just say it, I'm used to taking the blame for you since we were kids."
Sophia couldn't help but laugh, looking up at him, "You're so confident. So, tell me, is what I feel for you gratitude or dependence?"
Jason looked deeply into her eyes, "It doesn't matter. Just stay by my side, and I'll give you time to fall in love with me!"
Sophia felt a warmth swelling in her chest, wrapping her arms tightly around him, "Jason!"
Jason stroked her hair, whether to himself or to Sophia, he wasn't sure, "I've always been waiting for you. It's good that you're back. I don't care if you're healing in my arms or if you've moved on to someone else; it doesn't matter to me!"
Without any hesitation or caution, he brought Sophia back into his embrace and kissed her cheek.
From then on, she was his!
The next day was Easter.
Upon waking up, Sophia's first question to Jason was, "Are you still feeling unwell?"
Jason looked at her quietly, "Felt unwell the whole night!"
Sophia, concerned, asked, "Why didn't you say something earlier? Do you have a fever?"
As she reached to touch his forehead, Jason caught her hand and pulled her into his embrace, unable to suppress a laugh, "You silly girl!"
"Maybe we should go get some medicine!" Sophia suggested.
Jason responded softly, playing along with the act to the end.
