He took a deep breath, "Just meet me once, hear me out, and I promise, I won't bother you ever again."
Sophia pondered for a moment, "Alright, we'll meet once, as a farewell to each other."
A farewell to the past as well.
Robin immediately said, "Thank you, Sophia. I'm at the coffee shop right across from your office. I'll be waiting for you here."
"Okay," Sophia replied and hung up the phone.
After taking a moment to collect herself, Sophia called her assistant over and informed her she was going to meet someone at the coffee shop across the street, instructing her assistant to call her if anything came up.
The assistant, assuming Sophia was meeting a client, promptly agreed.
Sophia put on her coat and left.
The weather had cleared up, but it was still bitterly cold. Sophia briskly crossed the street and entered the coffee shop.
Robin was waiting for her upstairs in a private booth. When he saw her come in, he immediately stood up, "Sophia!"
He looked disheveled, with dark circles under his eyes and noticeably thinner, clearly having not slept all night.
Sophia frowned, "You didn't have to do this. If you like Diana, be with her. I won't hold it against you, nor will I cling to you. You don't owe me any apologies."
After all, what's done is done!
Robin insisted, "Please, sit down. Let's talk this through."
He ordered Sophia a hot chocolate, "It's chilly out there. Warm up a bit first."
"When we broke up, I felt you were being unreasonable, blaming me unjustly, and it hurt. I didn't go home for the holidays, and neither did Diana. She came to see me on New Year's Eve. Perhaps it was the holiday spirit, or maybe it was a sense of camaraderie between people from the same place, but I drank too much. Of course, I can't blame it all on alcohol; ultimately, I was in the wrong. I did something that betrayed you!"
Robin looked into Sophia's eyes with sincere depth, "Can we start over, please? I will cherish you, take care of you, and I'll cut all ties with Diana. I will truly love you!"
Sophia's throat tightened, and she slowly shook her head, "No, we can't be together anymore. No matter how much I love you, you betrayed our relationship, and I can't forgive that."
Robin's brows furrowed tightly, "Sophia, it's only you I love. I never agreed to date Diana, let alone get engaged. That night was just a mistake. If I were after physical affection, I wouldn't have refrained from touching you!"
Sophia bit her lip, "Is it because you weren't after physical affection, or because you didn't like me?"
Robin immediately said, "I was respecting you. I wanted to wait until we were engaged to become more intimate."
Sophia sneered, "We were in a proper relationship, and even a kiss had to be initiated by me. Yet, you claim to have nothing with Diana, but you slept with her. Robin, are you really sure who you love?"
