Connor immediately shook his head, "I really have no clue."
"Well, then I have no choice but to call the cops. Once they're here, they'll surely drag Mr. Connor down to the station for a little chat too. Can't promise they won't dig up something else!" Estelle whipped out her phone, ready to dial.
"Wait, don't call!"
Connor, in a panic, tried to get closer to Estelle but was held back by the bodyguard behind him, "Stay put!"
Connor shivered, begging Estelle with his eyes, "Please don't call, I'll tell you everything. Just don't get the cops involved!"
He was a self-made man, and throughout his career, there were a couple of skeletons in his closet he preferred to keep hidden. The last thing he wanted was police involvement.
"Out with it, then!" Estelle lowered her phone.
Connor frowned, obviously reluctant to spill, "It was my ex-wife, Grace!"
"What?" Sophia's eyes widened in shock, "Your ex-wife?"
"Yes!" Connor scowled deeply, "She just can't let go. I gave her nearly half of everything during the divorce, yet she's still clinging on, trying to ruin my upcoming wedding out of spite!"
Sophia and Estelle exchanged a glance; the revelation was unexpected yet somehow made sense.
But Estelle noted that while Connor's mention of his ex-wife Grace surprised her and Sophia, Tina, who was nearby, clenched her phone nervously.
Estelle inquired, "How did your ex-wife find out about your meeting with Sophia?"
Connor looked up, "I confronted her about it. She didn't spell it out, but it sounded like someone tipped her off."
His gaze then shifted towards Tina.
Tina, already terrified by the confrontation, stood up in a panic, "It wasn't me! I swear!"
Tina knew she couldn't hide anything anymore and whispered, "I... also sent them to Diana!"
Diana was the first to approach her, but the offer was low. Weighing the risk and reward, she didn't immediately agree.
But then Grace came along, tripling the offer, which tempted her.
She was an art student, always splurging on brands, struggling to cover her credit card bills. She needed the money badly.
After taking Grace's money, she thought of Diana again. Since she was already betraying one, why not make more by betraying to another?
Plus, she knew Diana had contacts at the coffee shop across the street, which could provide her with more convenience.
Diana, wary of Robin getting back with Sophia, had been covertly following Robin, often spending her evenings at the coffee shop across from the studio, eyeing the opposite building.
Over time, Diana befriended a waitress there, a fellow townie. Their friendship grew from casual chats to a solid bond.
