Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 2529

Sitting in the car, Eugene glanced over with concern. “Are you sure Amy’s boyfriend won’t come looking for trouble?”

Sylvia shook her head. “He won’t.”

Eugene’s brows drew together, his features sharp and sincere. “The guy just screams trouble. If he does try anything, you call me, alright?”

“What for?” Sylvia chuckled. “So you can come play hero and get in a fight? Is that your favorite pastime?”

“No!” Eugene protested immediately. “I hardly ever get into fights—actually, almost never! It just so happens both times you were there. I saw that guy pick up a chair, and I didn’t even think—I just reacted.”

He really had no idea whether Harry was going after Sylvia or not, but even the slightest chance was enough. There was no way he’d let her get hurt.

Sylvia focused on the traffic ahead, her tone calm. “I can take care of myself. I know how to look after me.”

Eugene’s gaze lingered on her, warm and admiring. “How are you so amazing? You seem to know everything! You say you never went to school, but your handwriting is beautiful, you understand management, finance—”

He grinned, adding, “And you know self-defense, too!”

The more time he spent with her, the more he discovered these little sparks of brilliance—each one surprising him, drawing him in.

For a moment, Sylvia’s eyes grew distant. She’d learned all these things from him.

“Just skills to get by,” she said quietly. “Nothing special. People laugh at me for it more often than you’d think.”

Eugene laughed. “Oh, come on. Who could laugh at you when you’re this good?”

Sylvia just smiled, letting the silence settle between them.

Sylvia frowned just slightly. “Seems like we’re both impossible to convince.”

Eugene let out a quiet laugh. “So quit trying to talk me out of it. I know exactly what I’m doing.”

“Let’s leave it for now,” Sylvia said. “You should head up—your guests are probably already waiting.”

He unbuckled his seatbelt but paused before stepping out, looking at her deeply. “Please stop avoiding me, okay?”

Caught by the intensity in his eyes, Sylvia found herself at a loss for words.

Eugene gave her a gentle, bittersweet smile—steadfast, unwavering—and finally stepped out of the car.
