Bethany Foster forced a stiff, unamused smile. "I really don't understand you young people. One minute you're practically glued together, and the next you're talking about clashing personalities! If there were no feelings, why didn't you say so earlier? Are you just playing the Foster family for fools?"

"That's a bit harsh, Bethany," Miranda interjected calmly. "It's exactly because they spent time together that they realized they aren't compatible."

Bethany looked at her in shock. "Miranda, I'm trying to defend our Carson here!"

Miranda's tone was soft but carried an undeniable authority. "Until this engagement is officially annulled, Marina is still my child. And I will not tolerate anyone gossiping about my child! Besides, we are here today to resolve the situation, not to point fingers."

Marina glanced up at Miranda, a lump forming in her throat, and quickly lowered her head.

Bethany looked incredibly sour. She opened her mouth to argue, but Barton shot her a chilling warning look. "Bethany, my wife has spent a lot of time with Marina. I think she understands her better than you do!"

Bethany glared at her husband, who stayed completely silent, clearly annoyed that she had spoken out of turn. Furious, she scoffed. "Fine, it's your family's business. We shouldn't have even come!"

Grandpa Foster suddenly spoke up. "If you don't want to be here, you can leave right now."

Bethany's eyes widened in sheer embarrassment. Unwilling to actually walk out and lose face, she huffed and turned her head, not daring to utter another word.

Grandpa Evert quickly smoothed things over. "We're all just worried about the kids. No matter what is said, we completely understand where everyone's coming from."

"Where is Carson?" Grandpa Foster demanded again.

Barton pulled out his phone to dial, but footsteps echoed outside. A second later, Carson pushed the door open and walked in.

"Why are you so late?" Grandpa Foster asked, visibly displeased.

Carson didn't bother explaining. He casually pulled out a chair and sat down.
