They followed the address Amy had given them and found Harry’s place. Milanda and Sylvia exchanged a look before stepping up and ringing the doorbell.
“Who is it?” Harry’s voice came from inside.
Milanda put on her most polite, gentle tone. “Good evening, sir. We’re from building management, here to check your circuit breaker.”
Harry sounded annoyed. “Why didn’t you come during the day?”
Milanda replied quickly, “Most residents are at work during the day, so we have to work overtime and do these checks in the evening. Sorry for the inconvenience. We’ll just need your signature when we’re done.”
Only then did Harry open the door.
He cracked it halfway and eyed Milanda suspiciously. Something about her seemed familiar, and then his face twisted with anger as he recognized her. “What the hell are you doing here?”
He moved to slam the door shut, but Sylvia kicked it open with a powerful shove and strode inside.
“Stop right there!” Harry shouted, lunging after them.
Milanda darted ahead, shielding Sylvia, and pointed her pepper spray right at Harry. “Stay where you are! Don’t you dare touch our boss, or you’ll regret it!”
“Get out of my way!” Harry snarled, reaching to shove Milanda aside.
She pressed the trigger. A sharp burst of spray hit Harry square in the eyes.
“Ahhh!”
He stumbled back, clutching his face, eyes squeezed shut in agony.
Milanda gave a triumphant little huff. “I told you to behave!”
Meanwhile, Sylvia had already pushed open the guest room door. Amy, hearing the commotion, came running and threw herself into Sylvia’s arms, sobbing. “Boss!”
Seeing the bruises on Amy’s face, Sylvia’s anger flared. “Did he hit you?”
Amy, terrified, nodded.
Milanda seized the moment, ran up, and unleashed another blast of pepper spray right into his face. “That’s for hitting people! That’s for bullying! I’ll fry you if you try anything else!”
As Harry howled in pain, Milanda couldn’t help but feel a rush of satisfaction. She zapped his hand with her taser for good measure.
Harry yelped, jumped up, and tried to flee—only to slam straight into the wall again, howling in both pain and humiliation.
It was both cathartic and almost comical to watch.
Sylvia didn’t want to waste another second with someone like him. She said coolly, “Let’s go.”
Amy, still shaken, whispered, “My necklace—he has it.”
Sylvia picked up a kitchen knife from the table and strode over to Harry, pressing the blade right to his throat. “Where’s Amy’s necklace?”
Harry flattened himself against the wall, trying to look tough. He spat out a curse. “I don’t believe you’d actually—”
He didn’t get to finish the sentence. With swift, practiced motion, Sylvia slashed the knife upward—a thin, bright line of blood sprang from his jaw to his cheek, leaving a long, stinging cut across his face.
