Sylvia laughed, then rolled down her window to speak to the blond man who had followed them. "Get in. Grace isn't in town; we still have a ways to go."
"Thank you!" He flashed her a bright, toothy smile and opened the back door.
Gabriel rested his hands on the steering wheel, his expression turning sour as he caught the man's reflection in the rearview mirror.
Once the car was moving, the man handed Sylvia a business card. "Hello," he said with a polite, charming smile. "This is my card."
Sylvia took it. It was a dark brown card bearing a single name, "Evan," followed by a long surname. In the top left corner was an emblem of a wheel, likely a family crest. There was no other information. The emblem felt familiar, but she couldn't quite place it.
Gabriel glanced at it, a knowing look on his face.
"Sylvia," she said, turning back to Evan.
"I have a C Country name as well," he said with a smile. "You can call me Don."
Sylvia instinctively finished the phrase. "Quixote?"
"I'm sorry?" he asked, confused.
She stifled a laugh. "Nothing. Don? That's a very... unique name."
"Georgia picked it for me," he said proudly.
Sylvia nodded, trying to keep a straight face. "So, Mr. Anderson, you and Grace are friends?"
"Yes, we've known each other for many years," Evan replied cheerfully. "But this is my first time visiting her homeland."
Grace's smile was gentle. "Well, this is certainly a surprise."
Sylvia quickly intervened. "Grace, why don't you catch up with your old friend? Mr. Carnes and I will take the medicine to the clinic and check on the children." She then turned to Gabriel. "Could you help me with that box?"
Gabriel, hearing Grace's familiar tone, realized the man was indeed a friend and said no more. He gathered the rest of the medicine, put it in the box with the vitamin gummies, and started walking. "Don't forget your umbrella," he called back to Sylvia.
Sylvia opened her umbrella, waved to Grace, and hurried after him.
Grace finally turned her full attention to Evan. "How did you find them?"
Evan’s blue eyes were deep and tender. "Perhaps my sincerity moved the heavens, and they led me to people who could bring me to you." He added, "The young lady's profile looks a bit like yours."
