With the wedding just a week away, Estelle was supposed to return to C City. According to tradition, the bride and groom weren’t supposed to see each other right before the ceremony.
Estelle wrapped her arms around his neck. “You can be the one to tell Grandpa.”
The man chuckled, peppering her face with endless kisses. “Fine, I’ll tell him. I’m sure he’ll understand.”
He laid her on the bed. She immediately rolled over, buried herself under the covers, and reached out to turn off the lamp. “So sleepy. Time for bed!”
Jonathan shrugged off his robe, slipped under the covers beside her, and pulled her against him, his arm circling her waist. He leaned down and kissed her shoulder. “You seemed to have plenty of energy a minute ago.”
“Jonathan,” Estelle’s voice was tinged with a pleading, coquettish tone, “can’t you exercise a little self-control?”
“Nope,” he whispered, his lips tracing a path up her neck to her earlobe. “You’re leaving in two days. We won’t see each other for at least five days.”
“Four,” she corrected him.
“Four days is still too long. I’ll be sleeping in this bed all alone for four nights.” His voice grew deeper as he nibbled at the sensitive skin behind her ear, which quickly flushed a beautiful shade of red.
A warmth spread through Estelle, both physically and emotionally, and she stopped putting up a futile resistance.
…
Estelle slept until ten, had breakfast, and after sending Jonathan a text, she went to see Harriet.
The ceremony gown, wedding dress, and reception dress for the big day were all set, but the final evening gown was still undecided. It wasn't that Estelle was indecisive; Harriet had turned all three of her designs into finished products and thought each one was so perfect that she couldn't choose.
As Estelle drove to the GK Jewelry studio headquarters, she noticed she was being followed.
A blue Ferrari had been tailing her for two blocks.
She glanced at the rearview mirror but didn't react. The traffic was heavy at this hour, making it impossible to shake them, so she figured she might as well let them follow. She was curious, anyway. Who was after her now?
