His voice was naturally husky, and in the quiet room, it sounded even deeper, each word landing like a weight on Norah's heart.
A blush crept up Norah's fair, clear cheeks. Her almond eyes shimmered as she bit her lip and said softly, “I kissed you. It was one-sided, so it doesn't count as *a kiss*!”
She wasn't sure if she was imagining it, but she thought she saw a flicker of unease in Xavier's eyes.
Norah lowered her gaze, her eyes darting nervously beneath her long lashes. “I was out of line that day. It was my fault, and I apologize. But... you know I like you. Pretending to be friends is just lying to myself. I'm usually holding back, but that day I just couldn't help it. Please, forgive me!”
Xavier was silent.
Did she even know what she was saying? What kind of brazen words were these!
Xavier said in a low voice, “If you can't control yourself, then we shouldn't see each other.”
“Don't!” Norah cried out, looking up at him cautiously. “I'll try my best to control myself, okay?”
Looking into her eyes, Xavier had the strange feeling that he was the weak, innocent victim, and she was the bully who had her eyes on him.
The thought was so bizarre that for a moment, he was at a loss for words.
The atmosphere grew awkward. Xavier couldn't stand it any longer and nodded. “Let's just drop what happened that day. You should go. I need to change back.”
Norah said, “Are you planning to be Jonathan's groomsman looking like that?”
Xavier arched an eyebrow. “What's wrong? Aren't all the groomsmen's suits the same?”
“I'm talking about your face. You're going to be a groomsman like this? You look older than Jonathan!” Norah scoffed.
Xavier was speechless.
Norah took a few steps closer and showed him what she was holding behind her back. “Look what I have.”
