They all laughed knowingly, and Emily smiled too. "Exactly. So, I have to be wary of mysterious tycoons and not let them find any loopholes!"
Magdalen said, "I'm afraid you won't be able to guard against everything!"
Emily retorted playfully, "Then I just won't open one!"
Magdalen joked, "In that case, Charlie will just have to acquire your current company!"
Emily shrugged helplessly. "So, I'm destined to work for him my whole life, is that it?"
Magdalen wrapped an arm around her shoulder. "I'll teach you a trick. Marry him, and then he'll be working for you for the rest of his life."
Emily smiled beautifully. "Can you come up with a better idea?"
Marina interjected, "Magdalen's idea is simple: persuade him in the bedroom!"
Magdalen looked at Marina with a brilliant smile. "What's wrong with that? It's simple, direct, and gets the job done. You might scoff now, but you'll be singing a different tune sooner or later!"
Marina quickly backtracked. "I wouldn't dare scoff! I'm impressed!"
Magdalen raised an eyebrow. "So, want me to teach you? I guarantee Mr. Foster will be completely devoted to you!"
A blush spread across Marina's face. "No, thanks. I have no intention of conquering him!"
Nearby, Sophia was sipping her drink, her face glowing with a faint blush. She didn't dare join the conversation.
Harriet laughed. "Have you all had too much to drink? You're saying anything that comes to mind! Poor Sophia just got a boyfriend; she's still an innocent young lady, and you've made her blush!"
"Huh?" Sophia looked up abruptly, her face turning an even deeper shade of red.
Seeing Sophia's adorable and flustered reaction, the others laughed even more freely.
After a while of joking around, Emily said, "By the way, where's Evelyn? Did anyone invite her to join us?"
Estelle's gaze was half-lowered, as clear and cool as the white wine in her glass. "I don't think she would. She helped me at the Citadel. She's a grateful person."
"Maybe to you, but not necessarily to others," Magdalen scoffed. "That's why my request for her is simple: just remember your kindness and don't cause you any trouble."
Estelle's phone rang. Without looking, she could guess it was a message from Jonathan.
She had received many congratulatory messages over the past two days, but Mr. Lamont's were the most frequent. They hadn't seen each other, but Estelle knew everything Jonathan had been doing all day, down to the very hour.
Someone was being excessively diligent with his reports.
She opened her phone, and sure enough, it was him.
[Ella, what are you doing?]
Estelle took a picture and sent it to him—the moon in the sky, the lights in the courtyard, the people and the food before her.
