Carson sent a message to the groomsmen's group chat. [Charlie, what's the hold-up? Why isn't Jonah getting out of the car?]
The groom was the leader, and if he didn't move, neither could they.
Charlie quickly replied, [Hold on, just wait!]
Norah rolled down her window and poked her head out. “What’s going on? Is someone blocking the cars? What happened?” she asked curiously.
“Sit still and don’t move!” Xavier grabbed her arm and pulled her back in.
Those in the lead car could already see the situation ahead. Lined up neatly on the wide asphalt road outside the Jarvis family estate was a row of men.
Jonathan recognized a few of them, including Sean, Bruce, and Bert, but there were at least fifteen or sixteen others he’d never seen before. They were all dressed in matching camo gear, each man fit and imposing. Though they wore welcoming smiles, the sheer pressure they exuded was palpable.
Soon, men in black suits emerged from the cars behind the lead vehicle. Led by Millard, they walked forward to meet Bruce and his crew.
Millard’s men were equally tall and well-built. The twenty of them stood in a line, an impressive formation that radiated power.
Millard stood in the center and spoke first, his tone respectful and polite.
“On this auspicious day, Mr. Lamont has come to your home to ask for his bride. He wishes to take Ms. Macclain as his wife, forever uniting our two families!”
Across from him, Sean smirked. “The Jarvis family is giving away a daughter, and Gab is giving away his sister. You can’t just marry her because you want to!”
Jacob’s voice was stern. “The daughter of the Jarvis family, the sister of Gab, is a woman of grace and unparalleled beauty! Mr. Lamont’s intentions are sincere, and he vows to cherish her and live in harmony, never to betray her trust!”
Millard gestured to his men, and five more came forward, each carrying a secure case. Inside each case was a tiara.
The tiaras varied in design, some encrusted with diamonds, others with a dazzling array of precious gems and jade. They glittered in the sunlight, all priceless heirlooms that drew gasps from the surrounding crowd. Whispers broke out.
“Each one of those has to be worth over a hundred million!”
“More than that. These are masterpieces you can’t buy even if you have the money.”
Bruce and his men stepped to the sides of the road, revealing the scene that lay behind them.
As far as the eye could see, rows upon rows of glasses filled with alcohol covered the entire asphalt road, stretching from Millard’s feet all the way to the entrance of the Jarvis estate.
The red, golden-orange, white, and blue liquids formed a multicolored bridge of crystal under the sun, shimmering with a dazzling, almost psychedelic light.
The sight was so staggering it was enough to make one’s legs tremble.
Even Brooks and Nate drew a sharp breath.
Millard loosened his tie and unbuttoned his cuffs. His gaze was calm and resolute as he declared, “Brothers, clear a path for Mr. Lamont!”
“Clear a path!”
The twenty men roared in unison, the sound deafening as they began rolling up their sleeves.
