Norah did not speak, just looked at him indifferently.

He took out a red leather jewelry box, and inside were a pair of earrings from GK Jewelry Studio. “I remember you said you love earrings. I spent all my money buying these for your birthday, hoping you’d forgive me. But today I found out how naive I was. You never needed these, and it made me realize how much you used to love me!” 

Norah replied slowly. “But I don’t love you anymore!” 

Nicolas shook his head in desperation. “No, Norah, please forgive me. I’m begging you. Please give me another chance!” 

Norah looked at him as if he was a stranger. “Let’s part on good terms, don’t make it too awkward for both of us. Just leave!” 

“Norah!” Nicolas tried to explain further.

Norah got up, her tone was indifferent. “Do I need to get someone to kick you out? Lillie and others are around; I’m leaving you the last bit of dignity!”

Nicolas looked at Norah’s heartless expression, and his face changed. He gave a bitter smile. “Norah, did you do this on purpose to humiliate me today? Without Leah, you wouldn’t be with me either, right? You’re the daughter of the Lamont family, pampered all your life. How could you fall for a poor guy like me? Leah was just an excuse for you to break up with me, wasn’t she?”

He shook his head sadly. “I was so stupid, always thinking about how to save our relationship. In reality, I’m not good enough for you! You’re right to leave me; being with me would only lower your status!”

“You never really respected me; otherwise, you wouldn’t have kept your identity from me!”

Nicolas mocked himself. “I came here with a glimmer of hope, but now I know that I am not good enough for you. You should find someone who matches your status, not a poor guy like me!”

Nicolas looked at Norah earnestly. “No, I didn’t betray our love. My mom was sick, and I just wanted to earn more money for her treatment. don’t like Leah; it’s you that I love!”

Norah glanced at the earrings in his hand. “If your mom is sick, you should give the money to her for treatment. What’s the point of buying earrings?”

Suddenly, Nicolas grabbed Norah’s hand with a humble posture and sincere eyes. “It’s because, in my heart, you’re more important than anything else! Norah, if you don’t mind that I’m penniless, please forgive me, and let’s start over. I’ll love you wholeheartedly!”

She admitted that her birthday party today wasn’t entirely pure in intention. It was indeed to make him regret! She was quite satisfied when she saw the astonished look on his face when he learned about her real identity! 

But now, she didn’t feel happy at all, only sadness.

Sad for having once loved such a person.

She didn’t want to see his hypocritical face anymore, nor his pretentious eyes. She didn’t want to look at him for one more second!

She turned around and headed for the backyard, her voice cold. “Addy, please show this gentleman out!”
