During dinner, Gabriel asked her, “Do you have another engagement tonight?”
Sylvia’s eyes fluttered, her gaze lowering a bit. She felt a twinge of guilt but nodded anyway. “Yes, I’ve been really busy lately.”
Gabriel simply responded with a quiet “Mm,” saying nothing more.
After finishing their meal, they left together, each driving their own car and heading off in opposite directions outside the apartment complex.
Sylvia wasn’t exactly lying—she truly was busy.
Later, when Milanda came in to report on work, she casually brought up, “Tomorrow’s Saturday. Mrs. Winters is hosting a birthday party at her house. She says it’s not going to be a big production, but she’s invited quite a crowd. Mr. Winters will probably be there to celebrate with his mom. Who knows, maybe Mrs. Winters is planning to use the party to pick out a daughter-in-law for herself!”
Milanda watched Sylvia carefully. “Should I find out who’s going to Mrs. Winters’ birthday party tomorrow?”
Sylvia set down the report she was holding, sounding a bit exasperated. “Milanda, let me say this one more time: Mr. Winters and I are over, and we’re never getting back together. Stop paying attention to the Winters family, and don’t go mentioning me in front of Mr. Winters on purpose.”
Milanda’s eyes flickered as she cautiously asked, “Boss, did Mr. Carnes come back to see you?”
Sylvia looked up. “How did you know?”
Milanda looked embarrassed. “He came to the office to find you the other night. I saw him.”
Sylvia didn’t say anything else, just nodded.
“Boss, are you seeing him again?”
Sylvia looked down at her report and replied calmly, “No.”
Milanda gave a little huff, clearly indignant on Sylvia’s behalf. “Good. You shouldn’t give in to him. He comes back and expects you to drop everything, then disappears without a word. Who does he think you are? Who does he think he is?”
Sylvia’s face suddenly darkened. She slowly raised her head and fixed Milanda with a frosty stare, her beautiful eyes sharp and cold. “How he sees me is none of your concern. Have I been too lenient with you? Have you forgotten your place?”
At noon, lunch was once again delivered by Old Mr. Quintin.
Sylvia looked at the four beautifully prepared dishes and soup in front of her, but suddenly lost her appetite.
Her phone rang. She glanced at the screen—it was Magdalen Sampson.
Sylvia swiped to answer. “Magdalen!”
Magdalen’s bright voice came through the phone. “Congratulations, Sylvia!”
Sylvia wasn’t surprised. Estelle already knew, so it was only a matter of time before Magdalen found out as well.
She smiled softly. “Thank you!”
Magdalen sounded excited. “Ella told me yesterday! I was dying to call you, but she said to give you some time. But I just couldn’t wait—I’m honestly so shocked! You’re Old Mr. Quintin’s granddaughter? Oh my gosh, when I first heard, I almost fainted!”

As the plot thicken. Adrian is done for and he can't try to control Norah, so he'd probably tattle to Janice who's gone for two weeks. Thank you soooo much for the updates....
