Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 2864

Gabriel spoke in a low, steady voice. “These past couple of days, I had someone follow the leads from your adoptive parents and track down the person who kidnapped you all those years ago. Turns out, she was arrested about a year ago and is currently serving time. I made sure she’s getting some special attention in prison.”

Sylvia’s eyes turned cool and clear as she nodded slowly.

Gabriel went on, “As for your so-called ‘adoptive parents,’ their lives aren’t going well either. Their son turned out to be a deadbeat—he found himself a girlfriend, and the two of them refuse to work. They just sponge off his parents, spending their days eating, drinking, and playing around. They even get violent with them whenever they demand money. Given all that, I figured there was no need for me to get further involved.”

“I let go of my feelings for them a long time ago,” Sylvia said. “We were never really a family. They bought me, so it was always possible they’d sell me. I never felt any attachment to them, so there’s no hate, either.”

“I’m the one who hates them!” Gabriel’s voice dropped, cold and heavy. “Just thinking about how they used to treat you—I don’t think they’ve suffered nearly enough for what they did.”

A strange feeling flickered in Sylvia’s heart, a tingling warmth that crept to the surface. She lifted her lashes, her voice soft and gentle. “But if they hadn’t sold me, I wouldn’t have met you. So I really don’t hate them.”

Gabriel slipped his arm around her shoulders, holding her close as their eyes met. His dark gaze grew deeper, more intense.

“The other day, Old Mr. Quintin asked me how I knew about the birthmark on your body. I haven’t answered him yet. How do you think I should respond?”

His tone rose at the end, a rough, magnetic timbre that mingled with the sound of the rain outside, drawing her into his gaze, making her heart race.

Sylvia smiled, her eyes shining like moonlit water. “Just tell the truth. Do you dare, Mr. Carnes?”

“You think I’m the one who’s afraid?”

He answered in a low murmur, his long fingers tilting her delicate chin upward as he bent down to kiss her.

Her lips were soft and cool, like jade cooled by rain. That frosty beauty melted beneath his kiss, leaving behind a tenderness that made his heart tremble.

Sylvia closed her eyes and responded, her relaxed body sinking back onto the cream-colored carpet, her chest arching instinctively.

His kisses grew hotter, his palm encircling her slender waist. The heat of his touch sent sparks along her nerves, setting her delicate skin aflame, inch by inch.

Power and grace—perfectly intertwined.

The fine silk of her slip rustled against his black shirt, the faint, intimate sound like the rain outside—dark and suggestive, stirring the night to life.

“Nana…”
