Eugene gave a slight nod and headed upstairs.
Once in his room, he shrugged off his suit jacket and went straight into the bathroom. Ten minutes later, as he stepped out, he felt an odd discomfort.
A strange, restless heat coursed through his body—something he couldn't shake off.
Frowning, he walked over to the bed. As he lay down, his hand brushed against the soft form of a woman. His mind went hazy, all reason drowned out by instinct.
Downstairs, Mrs. Winters had been waiting. When she judged enough time had passed, she went upstairs, paused by Eugene’s door, and listened in. A look of satisfaction crossed her face.

An hour later, Eugene came down from upstairs. Seeing Mrs. Winters waiting for him on the sofa, his face was cold and hard.
“This is the first time I’ve seen a mother plot against her own son.”
Mrs. Winters smiled serenely, showing not a trace of guilt. “Eugene, I truly did this for your own good. I went to a great deal of trouble to arrange everything.”
Eugene stared at her icily. “You want me to marry Evelyn?”
Mrs. Winters beamed. “After what’s happened, you owe Ms. Quintin an explanation, don’t you?”
Eugene’s gaze darkened, a mocking smile tugging at his lips. “So just because I slept with her, I have to give her an explanation? If that were the rule, I’d owe a lot of people explanations.”
Mrs. Winters’s expression grew stern. “Eugene, Ms. Quintin is nothing like those other women you’ve been with. She’s the heiress of the Quintin family. If you don’t take responsibility, can our family really afford to cross them?”
“Then let the Quintins come after us,” Eugene replied, utterly indifferent. “Either way, I’m not marrying her. If you think you can force me into this with a stunt like that, Mother, you’re going to be disappointed.”
With that, Eugene walked away.
Watching his unyielding departure, Mrs. Winters assumed he was going to find Sylvia. She called after him bitterly, “Eugene, I will never let Sylvia set foot in the Winters family! The only person you’re marrying is Evelyn!”
Eugene didn’t even look back; his figure quickly vanished into the night.

Maybe Gabriel can have someone at the Citadel check the whereabouts of Evelyn's boyfriend, whom she followed there in the 1st place to get information about her adoptive family and her biological family as well. The sooner she's gone the better. Thanks for the updates....
