On Thursday, Sylvia received a call from someone who introduced himself as Eugene’s assistant. His tone was polite and professional.

“Ms. Jarvis, my surname is Wu. I’m Mr. Winters’ assistant. Mr. Winters asked me to let you know that the contract between our two companies is about to expire, and we need to discuss renewing it.”

Sylvia figured Eugene must be busy and had delegated the call to his assistant. She checked the contract date and confirmed it was indeed close to expiration.

“Alright,” Sylvia replied. “Are there any new terms your company would like to add to the renewal?”

Jim answered, “Yes, there are. Ms. Jarvis, would you be able to come to our office today so we can discuss them in person?”

“Sure,” Sylvia said, glancing at the time. “I can be at your office before eleven.”

“Great. Please give me a call when you arrive,” Jim responded warmly.

After hanging up, Sylvia pulled out the paper contract with The Winters Group and reviewed it carefully. She then got ready to head to Eugene’s office.

As she was leaving, she nearly bumped into Milanda, who was coming to see her.

Milanda looked surprised. “Boss, are you heading out?”

Sylvia nodded. “I’m going to XR Group to discuss the contract renewal.”

“Mr. Winters’ place?” Milanda frowned. “Mr. Beck from Ultima Group just called. He said he needs to see you and is on his way over now.”

Sylvia checked her watch. “I already promised Jim from XR Group I’d be there before eleven.”

“Let me go instead. You’ve always handled matters with Ultima Group personally, and Mr. Beck said he specifically wants to see you,” Milanda suggested.

Since Milanda had always managed the partnership with the Winters family anyway, Sylvia nodded and handed her the contract. “Alright, you go. If they want to add any new terms, you have the authority to decide.”

Milanda nodded. “If there’s anything I can’t decide, I’ll call you.”

“Okay.”

Milanda took the contract and left, while Sylvia returned to her office to wait for Mr. Beck.
