Gabriel’s expression remained as calm and unreadable as ever. He nodded, the motion heavy with intent. “As long as you’ve thought it through, I’ll support whatever you choose.”
“Thank you.”
Sylvia didn’t know why, but her eyes blurred as if misted over, and her voice was a little hoarse.
At that moment, someone called her name. She answered, and began walking back toward the banquet hall. After a couple of steps, she looked back and asked, “What was it you wanted to say to me just now?”
Gabriel regarded her with those deep, inscrutable eyes. After a pause, he finally said, “It’s nothing. You said yourself—you’re not my Sylvia anymore. So from now on, do as you wish. You don’t have to keep me in mind with every decision.”
A lump formed in Sylvia’s throat, but her heart felt strangely empty. “I’ll never forget how good you’ve been to me.”
Gabriel turned away then, his tall frame facing the shadows cast by the trees, his figure suddenly seeming a little lonely. “Since you’ve decided to go far away, let the past go. Without those burdens, you’ll be able to soar higher.”
Sylvia looked up at the sky—the square of blue framed by the towering buildings overhead. She knew that beyond this piece of sky, there was a much wider world.
She turned and walked away.
Georgia came over to find Sylvia, smiling as she greeted her. “Who were you talking to? Gabriel?”
Sylvia nodded. “I just told him we’ll be leaving for Y Country.”
Georgia’s smile was gentle. “Since you’re leaving so soon, I’m glad you told him.”
She paused for a moment, then asked, “What did he say?”
Sylvia shook her head slowly. “Nothing much.”
“Among our guests tonight, some of you know me and some of you don’t. I have a new identity, and a family I can call my own. My life is bound to change, but I will always be Sylvia—Sylvia of the Quintin family.”
All the guests in the banquet hall stood and applauded, welcoming Sylvia home. Old Mr. Quintin’s eyes were wet with tears.
The photographer came forward, smiling. “Mr. Quintin, would you like a family portrait?”
Old Mr. Quintin nodded enthusiastically. “Yes, yes—a family portrait!”
He waved at Old Mr. Jarvis, and at Estelle and Magdalen as well. “Jarvis, Estelle, Magdalen—come here!”
The family gathered together, and soon, many of the other guests came over too, hoping to share a photograph with the Quintin family.

As the plot thicken. Adrian is done for and he can't try to control Norah, so he'd probably tattle to Janice who's gone for two weeks. Thank you soooo much for the updates....
