Old Mr. Quintin's face broke into a broad smile, his whole demeanor suddenly relaxed. “Then it’s settled!”
That evening, they all shared dinner together. Georgia rescheduled her flight for two days later, mostly because she wanted to spend a bit more time with Sylvia.
That night…
As usual, Sylvia went to chat with Georgia before bed. She sat down at the head of the bed, smiling. “Mom, there’s something I want to tell you. I hope you won’t be upset.”
Georgia’s eyes softened. “What is it?”
Sylvia took out the marriage certificate and handed it to Georgia. “Gabriel and I... we've gotten married.”
Georgia opened the certificate in shock, glancing at their photo and then at the date. She was left speechless. “This is…”
Isn't this a bit too fast?
Sylvia said, “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you and Grandpa beforehand—it all happened so suddenly.”
Georgia let out a wry chuckle. “It really was sudden. I just wanted you two to open up about your feelings, but I never imagined my daughter would be swept away so quickly!”
Sylvia leaned her head on Georgia’s shoulder. “I was the one who brought it up with Gabriel. I’m really happy.”
What more could Georgia say? She raised her hand to gently stroke Sylvia’s cheek and said softly, “I’m happy too. Of all people, I trust Gabriel to take care of you.”
“I haven’t told Grandpa yet. I'll wait a few days and pick a time when he’s in a good mood.”
“He won’t be angry. Even if he pretends to be, he actually likes Gabriel a lot. He’ll just be happy for you, like I am.”
Sylvia hugged Georgia’s arm tightly. “I really love him!”
Georgia nodded. “I know.”
She wrapped Sylvia in a hug. “You’re already married—so, when are you having the wedding? If you start planning now, I’ll hold off on leaving for a while.”
Sylvia replied, “No rush for the wedding. We’ll wait until summer is over.”
Georgia nodded. “Whenever you want works for me.”
“I’m not in a hurry either,” Sylvia said, her eyes dropping as she gave a soft laugh.
