Emily had worked two long days of overtime—almost two consecutive all-nighters—which nearly triggered another of Charlie’s outbursts, but she finally managed to finish the blueprints before work on Monday.
That Monday morning, as soon as Padgett arrived, he reviewed the blueprints and was even more impressed by Emily’s work than before. “To get a first draft to this standard in just two days... Emily, you’re more talented than I am!”
Emily pointed to the red veins in her tired eyes and exhaled. “It didn’t really take just two days. I was up working until four o’clock this morning.”
She’d only managed three hours of sleep before dawn.
Charlie almost called Gavin Porter to just buy Paragon Pixel Design outright, and it had taken all her effort to dissuade him.
Thinking back on it now, the whole situation struck her as funny.
Padgett looked up at her, a meaningful smile on his face. “Honestly, with a boyfriend like that, a girl wouldn’t have to work so hard.”
Emily arched her brow, dimples showing as she smiled. “Everyone needs something to aim for—their own dreams and career. Love isn’t everything.”
Padgett respected her clarity and handed the blueprints back. “I think it looks great. Let’s show it to the Sterling Properties team first. Even if it doesn’t pass right away, there shouldn’t be too much to revise.”
Emily breathed a sigh of relief. “Alright. I’ll go back and tweak a few details while we wait for Sterling Properties.”
She returned to her desk with the blueprints. About half an hour later, Adelaide’s assistant came to announce the morning meeting and told Emily to bring along the Sterling Properties draft.
Emily gave the blueprints another careful review. Just then, Edwina stopped by with a cup of coffee for her, complaining,
Adelaide had only just joined the company, but she was adapting quickly, already friendly with many of the senior designers.
As the meeting went on, Adelaide suddenly addressed Emily. “Emily, Mr. Greco from Sterling Properties will be coming by in a bit. How’s the blueprint looking?”
Emily replied, “Thanks to everyone’s efforts, there’s now an initial draft for Mr. Greco to review.”
Adelaide smiled warmly. “Emily, you really are exceptional—so talented. Honestly, when I agreed to Mr. Greco’s request, I wasn’t sure we could pull it off, but you’ve given me real confidence. Having a designer like you is a huge asset for Paragon Pixel Design!”
Adelaide praised Emily in front of everyone, and the others quickly joined in, echoing the compliments.
Padgett, listening nearby, glanced at Adelaide with a neutral expression.
