Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 3006

That afternoon, Charlie called Emily. Hearing she still had to work late, he drove back to the main house alone.

Kya hadn't seen him all night and clung to his neck, refusing to let go. "Daddy, I miss Mommy. Why didn't Mommy come with you?"

Charlie playfully tapped her nose and smiled. "Daddy's going to pick Mommy up a little later."

Kya perked up immediately. "I want to sleep with Mommy tonight."

"Okay, you can have Mommy read you a bedtime story!"

Noticing that Charlie had been coming home alone a lot lately, Mr. James asked, "Is Emily really that busy? She's working late again?"

Sitting on the couch with Kya in his arms, Charlie offered a wry smile. "Honestly, it's kind of my fault. That project for the James Building really put her on the map. Now, she's got clients lining up to work with her."

Mr. James smiled amiably. "You don't need to explain. I've always believed it's a good thing for young people to be driven. It's rare to find someone as hardworking and grounded as Emily. What I mean is, you should support her career and take good care of her."

Charlie thought to himself that he cherished Emily so much that even though he hated her working day and night, he never interfered with her job. That alone was proof of his unwavering support.

Mrs. James took Kya from him and asked, "Weren't you two planning on getting engaged first?"

"I'll bring it up with her once she's done with this busy period," Charlie replied.

Just then, his phone rang. He glanced at the screen and stepped outside to take the call.

In the living room, Mr. and Mrs. James fussed over Kya, asking her where she wanted to go play tomorrow.

He finished his drink just as Kellan strolled over, smelling of more than one kind of perfume. Kellan smirked. "Who would've thought the infamous playboy Charlie James would one day become celibate."

Clearly, he had witnessed the whole scene.

Ignoring the jab, Charlie asked flatly, "What brings you to J City?"

Kellan, who looked to be in his early thirties, wore a light gray mandarin-collar shirt that gave him a slightly rebellious edge. "Is it considered going rogue if I show up in the capital without a direct summons from you?"

The two had been college classmates. Now, Kellan ran the James family's B City branch, making them both friends and colleagues.

Charlie let out a short laugh. "If I say yes, are you going to get the hell out right now?"
