Emily answered the call, and Betty's gentle voice came through the speaker. "Happy weekend, Emily!"
"Happy weekend!" Emily replied with a smile.
"Are you free this morning?" Betty asked. "Remember when we talked about opening our own design studio? Well, a friend of mine is looking to sublet their workspace. The price and location are perfect. We should go check it out."
Emily hadn't expected things to move so quickly. "Today?"
"Great locations get snapped up fast," Betty explained. "Let's just take a look, and if it's right, we'll lock it down. Stop hesitating. I already told you funding isn't an issue."
Emily thought about it for a second. "Where should we meet?"
"I'll send you the address. Just head over now."
They agreed on the plan, and Emily hung up.
Betty texted her the location shortly after.
Emily checked the time, shot Charlie a quick text, and changed before heading out.
When she arrived at the designated spot, she didn't find Betty, but she did spot Wilson Walton.
It looked like Wilson was waiting for her. As soon as he saw her, he walked over with a warm smile. "I was waiting for Betty, but she got held up. I'll take you up first."
"There's no rush," Emily said. "We should probably wait for her so we can look at it together."
After all, it was supposed to be a joint venture.
Wilson's gaze was warm. "She doesn't really know what to look for anyway, which is why she asked me to come. If the two of us think it's good, it's good!"
He checked the time. "The property manager is here too, so let's head up. I'll text Betty to come straight up when she gets here."
Not wanting to argue, Emily followed Wilson upstairs to see the workspace.
They found a quiet booth. Wilson ordered coffee and pastries for Emily and asked about her future plans.
"I still have a few unfinished projects on my plate," Emily said. "I can't resign until I've at least handed over the blueprints."
Wilson nodded. "That's fine. Focus on your work. Leave the studio preparations to me. I promise I'll have everything sorted out before your grand opening."
Emily's expression was clear but thoughtful. "You studied design too. Honestly, it would make more sense for you and Betty to do this together."
Wilson shook his head. "I don't have the time for that. Besides, when it comes to raw talent, Betty and I combined still couldn't hold a candle to you."
As they chatted, a car pulled up outside. Emily thought it looked familiar and paused to take a closer look. The window rolled down, revealing Charlie's strikingly handsome profile.
Resting one hand on the steering wheel, he slowly turned his head to glare at her, his expression radiating pure displeasure.
Emily, "......"
