Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 3041

Jeanie Harper and June Goodwin.

Jeanie says, "No! We haven't been in touch for a long time!"

June laughs, "If it were me, I wouldn't go either. We haven't spoken in years, and suddenly she's reaching out because she's engaged? She just wants our money!"

Jeanie asks, "Isn't that a bit narrow-minded?"

June scoffs, "I'm just calling it like I see it!"

Jeanie shakes her head. "Emily isn't like that!"

June's eyes dart around as she prods, "We were classmates. Since Emily is getting engaged, why don't we all crash the party to show our support?"

Another chimes in, "I haven't talked to Emily Sullivan in years. Why should I rush over to give her a wedding gift?"

June smirks, her narrow eyes gleaming. "We're going to show support, give her some face. Who said anything about giving money? Besides, we can see what kind of rich guy our Ivy League graduate snagged."

The others realize June just wants to watch Emily make a fool of herself. Some act hesitant. "Is that a good idea?"

Jeanie says flatly, "I'd suggest you guys drop it."

June dismisses her. "It's an engagement, not a wedding. We don't have to bring cash. If we show up to support her, Emily might even be grateful!"

The others quickly agree and start asking where the hotel is.

Jeanie knows they aren't going to support an old classmate. They want to mock Emily and feel superior.

Disgusted, she stands up. "You guys chat. I have things to do. I'm leaving."

She turns and leaves without waiting for a reply.

Though she and Emily hadn't spoken in years, they used to be friends. Even if they drifted apart, there's no need to kick someone when they're down.

"Thanks, Sarah!"

Sarah hangs up, getting ready to leave work.

After two hours of overtime, it is pitch black outside.

She walks out with a coworker, chatting about work and dinner. As they step out of the building, a Rolls-Royce suddenly pulls up in front of them.

A man in a sharp suit steps out of the passenger side, his demeanor polite and respectful. "Excuse me, which one of you is Ms. Sarah Sawyer?"

Sarah nods blankly. "That's me. What's this about?"

The man hands her an invitation with both hands. "This is an invitation to Ms. Sullivan's engagement party. The date and venue are inside. A chauffeur will be sent to pick you up when the time comes."

Sarah quickly takes it, nodding repeatedly. "Thank you!"

The man gives a slight bow and leaves.
