He turned on his heel to leave. Panic flared in Norah. She leaped up, chasing after him and grabbing his arm. "Why would you tell my mom?"

Adrian's eyes were bloodshot. He whipped around. "This isn't some middle school romance. Why shouldn't your parents know?"

"You are not telling her!" Norah dragged him back with all her strength.

Adrian grabbed her wrist, trying to pry her off. "Let go of me!"

"No! Adrian, what gives you the right to meddle in my life?"

"Your family knows you work for me. I am responsible for you!"

"Are you out of your mind? Your office isn't a daycare. You're my boss, not my guardian. My love life is none of your business!"

"As long as you're under me, I'm responsible for everything you do!"

"You're being completely unreasonable!"

"You don't know what's good for you!"

"Who are you calling ignorant?" Norah snapped. Still gripping his arm, she kicked him squarely in the rear.

Adrian dodged clumsily, while also trying to make sure she didn't lose her balance and fall.

While the two were wrestling, Xavier suddenly walked over carrying a bowl of bones. His expression was flat, his tone icy. "Excuse me. You're in the way."

Norah froze, instantly dropping Adrian's arm and taking a step back.

Xavier walked right between them, heading straight for Coco. He crouched down and tossed the bones onto the ground.

Catching the scent, Circe leaped onto Xavier's shoulder, only to be promptly brushed off by his hand.

He used a fair amount of force, clearly annoyed. Thankfully, the kitten was nimble and landed perfectly on her feet without getting hurt.

Listening to the two whispering affectionately in the corner, a sudden, inexplicable surge of anger flared in Xavier's chest. "Norah, come here," he said coolly.

"Huh?" Norah looked over, startled, but quickly replied, "Coming!"

She shot Adrian a warning glare before hurrying over to Xavier.

Xavier was still tossing bones to Coco. Half-hidden by the shade of the tree, his expression was dark. "The kitchen and backyard are restricted areas. No loitering. If you two need to talk, take it outside."

Restricted area?

Norah looked around in confusion. Aside from the plants she had grown, the only things back here were a cat and a dog.

What was so restricted about it?

Oh, right. There was the teapot on the table—the one he had bought at the Movie Center for a few bucks.
