Somewhere in a J City cemetery.
The graves of Bat, Conner, and the others had all been relocated here, resting right beside Wolf.
It was as if they had been reunited once more.
After arriving, Xavier lit a cigarette and placed it in front of each headstone. Norah carefully laid out the floral tributes she had purchased outside the cemetery by the markers.
As he always did, Xavier sat down on the stone steps, looking out at the distant mountains in silent companionship.
Norah sat quietly beside him for a while before her clear voice broke the silence. "Tell me more stories about your past!"
Xavier's expression was impassive. "I've already told you everything."
Every time she came, she practically harassed him into telling stories about his time in the Tripe region. He had already recounted everything he could remember.
Norah pressed, "But there are so many of your comrades here now. There must be plenty of other stories!"
"There aren't." The man bent one knee, his posture relaxed but carrying a hint of rising impatience.
"Then I'll just ask Estelle next time!" Norah huffed.
Xavier frowned, turning to look at her. "You really want to hear them?"
"Of course!" Norah immediately beamed, resting her chin on her hand, ready to listen.
She was intensely fascinated by the life they had lived.
Xavier nodded slowly. "You keep saying I've had two hundred and twenty-nine girlfriends. Fine, I'll tell you about every single one."
Norah's eyes snapped wide open. Fury built in her gaze before she grabbed a nearby flower and threw it straight at him.
Xavier let out a low chuckle. His voice was raspy, and the rare sound of his laughter carried an undeniable, magnetic edge. "I thought you wanted stories? Two hundred and twenty-nine of them should keep you busy until next year."
"You're unbelievable!" Norah reached out to pinch him, but he effortlessly caught her wrists.
She couldn't figure out how he did it, but no matter how hard she struggled, she couldn't break his grip. She felt like a helpless rabbit pinned under the paws of a predator.
Xavier stood with his back to the sun, the warmth soaking into his shoulders. But the real heat seemed to seep straight into his bloodstream, rushing all the way to the center of his chest.
*
On the drive back, Xavier received a phone call. Whatever the person on the other end said caused his expression to darken into a lethal scowl.
Norah watched him closely.
Once the caller finished, Xavier replied evenly, "Don't panic. I'll head over today. Send me the address."
He hung up, and the address pinged on his screen.
Norah asked, "What's going on?"
"A friend ran into some trouble. I need to take care of it right now. I'll drop you off at home first," Xavier said.
Curious, Norah asked, "Where are you going?"

As the plot thicken. Adrian is done for and he can't try to control Norah, so he'd probably tattle to Janice who's gone for two weeks. Thank you soooo much for the updates....
