"Bloomfield."
Bloomfield was a neighboring tourist city just outside of J City.
Norah thought about it for a second before making her decision. "I'm coming with you!"
Xavier let out a dry scoff. "You don't even know what I'm going to do, and you want to tag along?"
Norah smiled brightly. "I don't care what you're doing. I'm going with you!"
Xavier shut her down immediately. "No."
"Why not?"
"I won't be back today. I need to stay there for a couple of days. Having you around will be inconvenient."
"I'll just treat it like a mini-vacation!"
Xavier stayed silent, but as they approached the next intersection, he signaled to turn toward the Lamont family estate.
Norah wasn't rattled. "Go ahead and drop me off. I'll pack my bags and drive to Bloomfield myself. Who knows, maybe we'll run into each other."
"Norah Lamont!" Xavier's voice hardened.
Norah bit her lip and stared at him. "Everyone at my office went on the company retreat. I stayed behind purely for you. Now you're leaving town and ditching me. Do you think that's fair?"
Xavier let out a sigh. "I'm not going on a joyride. I have business to handle."
"I don't care. I'm going. I'm not a kid, I won't get in your way. Just pretend I don't exist!" Norah gave him her best puppy-dog eyes. "When you're handling your business, I'll go sightseeing on my own. I swear I won't bother you. Please?"
Xavier checked the time. If they wasted any more time arguing, they wouldn't arrive before sundown.
"You better behave, then," Xavier warned.
"I promise!" Norah excitedly threw her hand in the air like she was swearing an oath.
Xavier merged onto the highway and made a quick call to Damian, telling him to keep an eye on the restaurant because he'd be gone for two days.
